KiwiRail is New Zealand's national railway, employing talented people in a wide range of business functions. Our teams are responsible for maintaining 4,000 kilometres of rail corridor, bridges, tunnels, viaducts, overhead wires, signals and level crossings and that is where you come in.

We have a number of projects to deliver across Auckland and as a result have permanent positions available for people to come into an entry position in rail!

Your Role:

  • We are on the lookout for individuals who wish to work in Track roles. This is a great opportunity to get a foot in the door into the rail industry!
  • As a member of our maintenance teams, you will work in a team environment carrying out maintenance, repairs and renewals of the infrastructure asset (the train tracks) in a safe, cost effective and timely manner.
  • This is an outdoor role you will need to be physical fit, willing to work in all weather conditions and not afraid to get your hands dirty.
  • You must also be willing to work shifts - we work 24/7 so shift work will be on a rotating roster including, early mornings, nights, weekends and public holidays.

Your Skillset:

  • A Clean NZ Drivers Licence, Class 1 is essential in this role. It would also be advantageous to have a Class 2 (HT Licence) but if not, we can support you in getting one if it's required in your role.
  • Ideally, you will have experience within the construction industry or within a heavy labouring environment with experience using light mechanical hand tools. Because of this experience we will looking for you to be able to demonstrate the ability to follow safety guidelines and be results driven.
  • A solid level of both verbal and written communication is also important in this role.
  • You must also be able to pass a Ministry of Justice check and complete a mandatory medical and drug test to be considered for this role.

  • Penal rates for weekend and night shifts
  • Full training and support to gain rail qualifications, certificates and required licenses to set you up for success
  • Starting hourly rate $25.23, increasing to $26.24 in November 2022

You must have full working rights to NZ to apply as this role cannot support a visa application.

KiwiRail has a mandatory Covid-19 vaccination requirement for new employees as part of our health and safety risk management framework. This will require all new employees to be fully vaccinated from their start date and proof of your vaccine pass will be required as part of our pre employment process
