Thermal Engineer - 116702


THE ROLE:

As a system design engineer you will be part of the hardworking thermal team that develops thermal technologies that enable groundbreaking performance for mobile computing products. This position will give you an outstanding opportunity to get involved in thermals from silicon to system level.


The person:

Looking for a leader and innovative problem solver that enjoys working with multi-functional teams and customers in a fast paced environment.


Key responsibilities:

Lead defining, driving, and managing thermal development of mobile products. Crafting mobile thermal solutions. Collaborate with silicon, system architecture teams in defining thermal requirements and thermal features. Enable the performance team to achieve product performance. Work closely with customer engineering and OEM/ODM customers directly to debug and resolve thermal issues.


Preferred experience:

  • Knowledge of CPU and GPU architecture and thermal controls for APU/CPU, GPU and combinations of these. Must have experience with driving thermal feature implementation and deployment.

  • Candidate must have a strong background in design, modeling, optimization, and tuning of mobile computing products. Should also have a detailed understanding of PC system architecture, mobile system mechanical, board design, and power delivery.

  • Design for ergonomics – skin temperature, acoustic, performance optimization

  • Familiarity with skin temperature management including AMD STT features.

  • System layout optimization, chassis design, and thermal solution sizing to meet performance and sizing requirements.

  • Must have deep knowledge of key system thermal components and new technologies including fans, heatsinks, shielding, spreaders, Thermal Interface Materials.

  • Depth of system knowledge of all key components and sub-systems which impact thermals (VRAM, NVME, VR, Memory, Charging circuit, etc).

  • Ability to quickly identify thermal design problems and drive alternate solutions.

  • Expert knowledge in heat transfer and fluid mechanics with sophisticated level experience in system CFD modeling using Icepak or Flotherm. Mechanical cad modeling with Creo or Solidworks also required.

  • Extensive lab experience required and should include: Labview programming and data acquisition, system teardown and instrumentation.

  • Strong written and verbal communication. Ability to summarize and present issue status, design proposals, key findings, and AMD product thermal requirements at both AMD leadership and customer levels.


Academic credentials:

Mechanical Engineering Graduate with MSME with several years of experience, with PhD being a plus.
