As a Technology Specialist within the Data team, you’ll help deliver and govern our data outcomes across the business. Data is everywhere, and the speed at which it is generated is faster than ever. However, there’s more to the story than just data. On its own, data doesn’t help us improve our sales, increase productivity, or make our brand more ‘sticky’. We also need the right skills, attitudes, and tools to do that - this is where YOU and the rest of our Data Engineering function come in!

You’ll be accountable for:

• Reporting to one of our Engineering Leads and contributing to the Morrisons data technology stack implementation

• Helping to build out best practices, develop repeatable processes/patterns and generally drive our Google Cloud Platform (GCP) implementation forward in the ‘right way’

• Being acutely aware of how important putting the right information, in front of the right people, at the right time is, to a business like ours

• Helping to represent engineering best practices, processes, estimations and governance within our Agile delivery ways of working

• Helping control the proliferation of technology within the data stack, working as part of the team to simplify and streamline to a single set of evolving tools & products

• Working closely with our key offshore development partners

• Delivering continual performance improvements and cost minimisation through the effective use of emerging technologies and optimisations

About You

lYou’ll ideally have the following skills, experience and interests:

• Knowledge of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) data tooling – BigQuery, Pub/Sub, Cloud Composer, Cloud Functions, Data Catalogue, etc.

• ETL/ELT pipelining

• Engineering experience across large-scale data technologies

• Agile delivery and an understanding of the role of Data Engineers within these ways of working. Experience of supporting tools, such as Jira, is all the better

• An understanding of the migration of legacy on-premise platforms to cloud services

• Translation of business requirements to technical solutions

• Conveying complex information and processes between technical and non-technical colleagues, stakeholders and partners

• Be able to manage conflicting demands and work across multiple concurrent deliveries

• Have excellent communication & organisational skills with a proven ability to work analytically to solve challenges
