Job Introduction

Countryfile, BBC1’s flagship factual series, regularly the most watched factual programme on any channel, is looking for a number of experienced and enthusiastic Technical Assistants to become part of a pool from which individuals will be appointed as and when vacancies arise.

This is an exciting opportunity to support the team in driving the creative ambition of the UK’s top-rating year-round, factual programme. This is a largely practical role that will provide a great opportunity for those looking to further their technical skills in the field.

Role Responsibility

• In the production office duties typically include preparing and monitoring stock; distributing production paperwork; managing the storage and inventory of kit, props and safety equipment.
• Responsible for the maintenance and prep of range of cameras and technical equipment owned by the production.
• Rigging and de-rigging kit on location.
• Logging and naming of rushes and coordination of their transfer to the post house.
• Ensure camera equipment is clean and tested after each trip.

The Ideal Candidate

• Knowledge and understanding of filming techniques.
• Self-shooting skills.
• Technical expertise that must include: an understanding of the underlying principles of video and still digital photography.
•  Ideally have an understanding of setting up shoots and working on location.
• Team-working, organisational and scheduling skills.
• Be level-headed, and able to work calmly and effectively under pressure.
• Cheerfulness, resilience and a sense of humour.
• Ability to operate a drone would be desirable.

Joining our Technical Assistant pool will enable you to be offered work as and when opportunities arise. Appointment to the pool will not entitle candidates to permanent contracts in the BBC, those will have to be applied for in the normal way, and neither does it guarantee work.
