About this role
Here in BT Ireland we have a broad range of systems to enable us to operate, our vision is to reduce the footprint to enable economies of scale as well as build competencies that can enable us to be faster to market and more cost effective. To take bold steps, embark on digital transformation and work towards metrics based operations, enabling metrics based decision making.
You’ll support in moving to a platform first approach, intercepting group architecture, build loosely coupled systems, move current architecture to microservices based approach. You’ll support us architect our journey to consolidate different systems to ecosystem while ensuring that the services do not fail whilst in transition. It is a waltz between software engineering, operations / infrastructure needs, DevOps practices, bringing people in the journey.
It is going to be an exciting journey. We need to understand current systems (developed in Perl, Microsoft technology), develop strategies to evolve / consolidate and build more cloud native platforms (Openshift, Java, Springboot) whilst we deliver product management demanded projects or improve existing systems.
You'll have the following responsibilities
This is a hands-on role. Part is about design, architecting, leading. Another part is about being hands-on coding for show and tell, ability to go in depth to understand code and interfaces, documentations to allow for discussions. If needed do 3rd level emergency support.
Plan, design and develop technical solutions and alternatives to meet business requirements in adherence with BT standards, processes and best practices.
Build strategies to evolve including Intercept Enterprise Value Architecture.
Perform Proofs of Concepts (PoCs) to assess and identify the technologies per the needs of the organization.
Provide recommendation to Senior Management and lead on selection of technologies and strategic technical direction for the department
Collaborate with business and technical partners to identify and scope the opportunities, identify risks, benefits and constraints
Creative with an interest in bundling services in new ways to create new capabilities
Develop documentation templates and enforce development of documentation throughout the lifecycle of the solution.
Represent team in the information security and audit policies
Liaise with other technology, regional and commercial teams to execute.
Provide SME experience for day-to-day system development and maintenance activities of the team.
Mentor and guide other team members during all phases of the SDLC
You'll have the following skills & experience
Software Engineering background, API knowledge and a holistic approach to design and customer experience
Proven track record of leading, designing and delivering scalable software projects
Strong passion in Customer experience
Passionate about delivering APIs and SDKs that are intuitive and make Developers lives easier
Must be highly proficient in in multiple programming languages including Java and Perl
You’ll be knowledgeable about springboot and building in cloud environment
Proven track record in application development - multiple examples of solutions deployed where you were a lead and/or key architect / coder
Experience in building Telecom applications
Experience with TOGAF principles / certification (Desirable)
Experience with TM-Forum (Desirable).
You care about the technical architecture and design - ensuring that the solution is flexibly designed and performs efficiently
Expert understanding of software engineering concepts and methodologies
Proactive and able to handle multiple high-priority demands while drivin consistent results
Highly driven with a ‘can do’ attitude yet a structured and pragmatic approach to execution
Highly skilled in verbal and written communication skills with ability to precisely articulate problem space / opportunity
