Our Risk Management Generalist - Tax Risk & Quality (R&Q) team focuses on promoting and monitoring compliance with applicable external laws and regulations as well as internal policies and procedures to help manage clients regulatory, litigation, and reputational risk.

This role has the option of being based out of our PwC office and/or home office. Will need to be present for in-person formal presentations or conferences, as required.
This role doesn’t support completion of the Canadian CPA designation.

Purpose-led work you’ll be part of
Developing a strong knowledge base on the 8 pillars of risk management (client acceptance, engagement acceptance, audit independence, higher risk management, contracting, limitation of liability in the deliverables, maintaining a proper record of work, and review and sign off procedures).Â
Performing the detailed substantive/technical review of up to 35 Tax engagements for compliance with the 8 pillars of risk management.Â
Finalizing the individual partner reports under the supervision of the Tax R&Q manager, senior manager and/or director.
Monitoring Tax R&Q consultation requests that are submitted by Tax engagement teams through Tax Source, liaising with these engagement teams to gather additional information, and drafting the proposed response for review by the Tax R&Q manager, senior manager and/or director based on existing policies and best practices. Once finalized, sending the responses to the engagement teams.
Developing a standard set of responses for recurring queries from the Tax practice, and leveraging these to draft Tax R&Q Alerts and Reminders to be reviewed by the Tax R&Q manager, senior manager and/or director and issued to the Tax practice.
Triaging Tax R&Q approval requests received through the Salesforce My Risk Home Environment, liaising with engagement teams to schedule calls to discuss the requests, drafting reasoning and conclusions reached for each of the requests for inclusion directly in Salesforce, with the involvement of and review by the Tax R&Q manager, senior manager and/or director.Â
Maintaining the content of the Tax engagement acceptance questionnaire on the Salesforce My Risk Home Environment as well as developing and producing various Tax R&Q reports required to understand overall risk acceptance activity for the Tax LoS, under the supervision of the Tax R&Q manager, senior manager and/or director.
Addressing general queries from the Tax practice and offering support on how best to navigate the different modules on the Salesforce My Risk Home Environment, under the supervision of the Tax R&Q manager, senior manager and/or director.
Developing and updating the content of Tax Source and Tax R&Q training materials, with review by the Tax R&Q manager, senior manager and/or director, for necessary changes to our policies, guidance, reference materials, videos and toolkits. Â
Experiences and skills you’ll use to solve
CPA and/or MBA and/or Law Degree
Tax experience in PwC or another professional services firm such as other accounting firms and law firms and other professional consulting firms.
A working knowledge of the service offerings delivered in the Tax practice along with the standard deliverable types (decks, memos, opinions, computations, returns and forms).
Strong analytical abilities (akin to the application of provisions of the Income Tax Act to client situations) so as to be able to understand Global and Canadian risk policies and apply them to a myriad of circumstances encountered by Tax partners and their staff in practice.
Strong investigative, analytical and problem solving skills.
Exceptional organizational skills, ability to prioritize, and work independently.
The drive and interest to meet the growing demands in the Tax Risk & Quality field driven domestically and globally.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
The ability to interact well with people and to work in a collaborative team environment.Â
Communicating with the Tax practice on a proactive basis to address Tax R&Q consultation requests submitted through Tax Source and Tax R&Q approvals triggered through the acceptance modules in Salesforce. Â
Significant analysis is required on a daily basis. The Tax R&Q senior associate is required to research and find the Tax R&Q policies on point, study and analyze such policies, and apply the policies to the relevant Tax partner’s circumstances under the supervision of the Tax R&Q manager, senior manager and/or director.
Guidance and recommendations offered by Tax R&Q to Tax partners directly affect the Tax partners’ interactions with their clients. In some instances, the Tax partners cannot proceed with the relevant client or engagement, or are required to agree upon an acceptable middle ground with the client to ensure that our risk management policies are being followed and respected. Tax R&Q input guides Tax partners in navigating client relationships and demands in a safe manner so as to protect the PwC brand and thus mitigate any reputational or financial risk to the Firm in Canada and to the network globally.
