Job Description

The Role

Your day to day role will vary but the overriding responsibility will be to ensure the plant is operated, tested and maintained within its safety case envelope. This will include oversight, and acting as the customer for new plant systems and replacement plant projects and in some cases where the plant is modified acting as the Responsible Engineer for plant modifications.

Alongside the above, as a Systems Engineer you will:

  • Report to either the Steam and Rotating Plant or Protection and Electrical Group Head, ensuring that Company Technical Standards, Nuclear Safety Compliance and Management control processes are correctly applied and adhered to
  • Focus primarily on C&I or Computing areas but will be required to develop an understanding of both mechanical and electrical aspects as well
  • Inform the Business of risks within your plant areas; develop and present mitigations to inform the Business investment plan, establish short term resolutions and/or bridging strategies to a longer-term position
  • Actively participate in the work management and outage work planning processes providing technical engineering input as required
  • Prioritise work planning processes, providing technical engineering guidance as required to ensure potential impact on plant performance has been considered from safety, reliability and efficiency perspectives
  • Conduct system reviews, create improvement plans and set maintenance strategies in line with safety and performance requirements, taking into account equipment failure investigations, performance monitoring, equipment ageing and obsolescence and sustainability

The Skills

As a Systems Engineer you will be self-motivated, resilient and have a positive attitude towards your work. You must be able to work independently. Use your own initiative and act autonomously to drive C&I or Computing ownership and improvements within your plant areas.

As a minimum requirement, you will have a relevant HNC (or equivalent), and you will demonstrate high standards of Nuclear Professionalism and Safety.

Experience of Nuclear, conventional steam power plant operations, engineering or a technical and safety discipline would be advantageous but it isn’t essential. As with experience of PLC/DCS/HMI Systems or legacy computer systems, this would be advantageous but again training will be provided.
