About Intelligent Transport Systems

Intelligent Transport Systems is a part of the Customer Strategy and Technology division of Transport for NSW. It is responsible for providing the smart infrastructure, real-time data and operational systems required to manage the transport network. Focussed primarily on delivering new capabilities through the application of advanced technology, we are a passionate group of engineers and technologists intent on helping improve NSW through the delivery of our exciting Future Transport Technology roadmap. The Opportunity 

Transport for New South Wales is seeking for a Systems Engineer to join Data Systems and Integration team. The role is a permanent full time position based at CBD with flexible work options. The Systems Engineer will be motivated to conduct the design and integration of capability enhancements, upgrades for existing platform communication systems, as well as system architecture development. You will have great experience in working with various business units within TfNSW and IT partners, suppliers.

You will provide systems engineering and assurance functions for Data Systems and Integration team and will maintain a holistic view of business and technology systems. Act as trusted expert that will drive consistent systems engineering and assurance methodologies and practices across the Transport cluster.

On a day to day basis you will be responsible for, but not limited to:

• Adhere to and maintain a rigorous systems engineering governance framework that applies best practices and industry leading methodologies, and supports projects in delivering outcomes that are safe, reliable, and fit for their intended purpose.
• Design and implement Integration of systems and data within existing infrastructures, emphasising advantages, and minimizing disruption.
• Familiarize with TfNSW data specifications with Business context and develop a framework to design, build and deploy the product / services. Review new and existing system designs and make recommendations for improving or altering the systems.
• Create detailed specifications, Interface control document, Data concept of operations for proposed solutions including Data sets, Data formats, Data source and Data lineage.
• Implement any required infrastructure changes in a careful and deliberate manner to improve cloud systems including the enhancement of security, performance, simplicity, and resilience.
• Create documentation of the system specifications, including system scripts, system installation procedures, security procedures system backup and recovery techniques and system test methods to ensure compliance with TfNSW standards.
• Maintain a holistic and comprehensive system view that factors in all aspects of technology requirements and business operations, that in turn enables greater business successes, customer outcomes and longer-term sustainability for Transport.
• Undertake systems engineering activities throughout the project lifecycle as required by project leadership and management – delivering all necessary content and artefacts including defining and scoping customer needs, required functionality, system specifications, structured system hierarchies, concept of operations, validation, and assurance, and that all project documentation is collected and stored.

About You

To be successful in the role;

• Strong analytical ability, integration, and problem-solving skills.
• Proven track record working in MS Azure cloud and designed/implemented System integration solutions on-prem / cloud.
• Ability to create technical documentation for system engineering like API/Interface design document, Interface control document, procedures, and operations.
• Experience in IT infrastructure and Cloud including networks, firewalls, and security.
• Well-developed analytical and problem-solving skills. Knowledge in SAP Analytics.
• Think outside the box with a can do attitude.

Salary and Benefits 

The salary for this position is TfNSW Grade 8 ($120,423 - $134,872) per annum plus superannuation and leave loading.
