Job Description

As a Systems Analyst you will work to create the high-quality software applications that allow TalkTalk to deliver its roadmap and provide excellent service for its customers. If you are from a technical background in either software development, software testing or solution design, we would love to hear from you.


You will work with stakeholders to understand and interpret business requirements and produce functional design specifications for consumption by delivery and operational teams. You will ensure these meets the business objectives, align with the architectural strategy, and utilise the best possible options to ensure our software is robust, extensible, and fit for the future.

As well as providing subject matter expertise on telecoms application platforms you will be an excellent collaborator with colleagues throughout the company. You will work closely with other members of the Delivery team and will be a key source of technical leadership within the department.

Key responsibilities will include but are not be limited to: 

  • Interprets business requirements into a set of functional design specifications for consumption by delivery and operational teams.
  • Investigate business needs and problems, identify opportunities, and contribute to the recommendation of improvements in automated and non-automated components of new or changed processes and organisation. Assist in defining acceptance tests for these recommendations.
  • Design components using appropriate modelling techniques following agreed architectural strategy, design standards, patterns, and methodology. Identify and evaluate alternative design options and trade-offs.
  • Create multiple design views to address the concerns of the different stakeholders of the architecture and to handle both functional and non-functional requirements. Model, simulate or prototype the behaviour of proposed systems components to enable approval by stakeholders.
  • Produce detailed design specification to form the basis for construction of systems and review, verify and improve own designs against specifications. Ensure the design repository and design artefacts are accurate, clear and go to the correct level of detail for consumption by the delivery teams.
  • Contribute to the development of solution architectures in specific business, infrastructure, or functional areas. Support a change programme or project through the preparation of technical plans and application of design principles that comply with enterprise and solution architecture standards.
  • Investigate corporate data requirements. Apply data analysis, design, modelling, and quality assurance techniques, to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated. Provides advice and guidance to database designers and others using the data structures and associated components.
  • Works closely with the development teams within a variety of delivery approaches to ensure that the implementation is effective, faithful to the original design and is of the appropriate quality.
  • Work flexibly across several technology stacks be proactive in staying current in your technical knowledge, suggesting new ideas, tools and practices that may benefit TalkTalk whenever appropriate.
  • Drive forwards best practice adoption and creation in our software architecture and design principles. Promote continuous improvement such as innovation initiatives, technical debt removal, automation, and process improvements.
  • Mentor, guide, coach, and support everyone around you to ensure we hit our deadlines, develop our people, share knowledge, and succeed as a team. Take ownership of issues and see them through to resolution. 
  • Follow all documented processes both technical and non-technical and ensure our work recording and tracking systems are updated appropriately and accurately.   
  • Contribute to planning and sizing of project requirements in isolation or with the rest of the team.
  • Implement stakeholder engagement and communications plan. Collect and use feedback from customers and stakeholders to help measure effectiveness of stakeholder management. Help develop and enhance customer and stakeholder relationships. Communicate effectively to highlight risks and issues and successfully manage and mitigate these.

In order to be successful in this role, it’s likely that you will need to have come from a technical background in either software development, software testing or solution design.
