System Software Design Engineer (Cloud, Virtualization, Linux, Security).

THE ROLE:

We are seeking a senior level Linux kernel developer for our Cloud security Engineering team. The main focus for this role is providing consultative Linux expertise to our external cloud customers and partners. Key areas of focus include: 1.) Kernel configuration 2.) Security feature enablement 3.) OS hardening 4.) Debug kernel hangs and other system hangs 5.) Host OS enablement and optimization for AMD EPYC based servers.  

THE PERSON:

The senior level Linux kernel developer will report to the Datacenter Ecosystems & Application Engineering team and will collaborate closely with other performance, characterization and optimization teams within AMD. The person selected for this role will work closely with cloud service providers (CSPs) as they enable their workloads on AMD EPYC.   

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Interface with DEAE engineering teams for enablement and optimization expertise for AMD EPYC.
• Collaborate with key partners and customers to deliver a Linux stack optimized for AMD EPYC.
• Debug issues as the arise. Demonstrate Linux technical expertise to partners and customers
• Develop seamless boundaries with AMD’s Linux upstream team & performance engineering resulting in delighted partners and customers

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Excellent Linux kernel technical skills – Host OS and Guest OS
• Red Hat (RHEL) and Canonical (Ubuntu) kernel experience – OS performance and x86 hardware performance
• Deep knowledge of the Linux virtualization stack (Libvirt, QEMU, KVM)
• Working knowledge of security and cryptography principles
• Driver level expertise (HSM, GPU, Virtio, SR-IOV)
• C/C++ programming skills required

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

• BS or MS in computer science, computer engineering, or a related experience.
