Performance Modeling Architect - Server System

The Role:

This is an outstanding and best-in-class opportunity to build system-level models. Develop and evaluate new features using customer workloads and use cases advise product roadmap decisions.

This team of architects in the Server Performance Group optimizes workloads for throughput and latency by finds opportunities across all parts of system architecture. We collect and analyze performance profiling data and traces from customer deployments of AMD based servers to quantify and isolate performance bottlenecks, and share the insights to drive features into the next generation of server CPUs and software stack components.

The Person:

An outstanding technical contributor to optimize performance of AMD-based next-generation servers for cloud and enterprise. This hardworking, dedicated, and passionate performance architect proposes and implements solutions to processor and system performance issues.

Well informed on the latest trends in the cloud (e.g. storage, security, IoT) and gives consultative direction with senior management. Quickly ascertains --using data-- how next-gen CPUs and platforms should be engineered to support customers and industry trends. Determines, develops, prototypes, and delivers software optimizations exploiting the hardware architecture. Works to up stream these optimizations to open source communities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for developing system level abstracted models to explore future design features and optimizations
  • Using system level models, understand, develop, and evaluate key micro-architectural/ISA features of advanced CPUs to determine server performance opportunities
  • Establishes and maintains AMD's technological leadership position
  • Considered technical leader across project and departmental boundaries and has a proven track record for sustained innovation
  • Solves problems requiring cutting edge approaches and champions innovation across the organization
  • Makes technical decisions that have a significant impact on product families, go to market strategies and customer happiness
  • Develops tools and methodology for performance modeling, workloads analysis

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience with systems architecture – understanding across CPU, memory, storage and I/O subsystems
  • Exposure to cloud or enterprise software stacks such as Hadoop, Spark, Oracle or other database
  • Experience with performance profiling tools and hardware performance counter monitoring tools
  • Experience running, analyzing, and tuning system performance benchmarks
  • Strong programming skills specifically using Python, C, C++, or System C
  • Experience collecting workload data, taking traces on workloads
  • Minimum of BS + 8 years or MS + 6 years or PhD + 3 year plus proficiency in principles and methods of microarchitecture, software, and hardware relevant to performance engineering

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Masters or PhD with emphasis on Computer Architecture performance studies preferred

Location:

  • Santa Clara, CA - San Francisco Bay Area 
  • Austin, TX - Greater Austin Metro Area
  • Other locations in the US will be considered
