A successful Support Engineer on our team will be customer focused and motivated by both individual and team successes. They will be innovative, energetic, and able to adapt to new processes and procedures quickly while handling a high volume of requests and ambiguity. They will have a keen eye for recognizing inefficiency and show strong initiative to simplify processes for their customers.
Key job responsibilities
What will I do?
· Run and maintain a 24x7 Internet-oriented production environment, across multiple data centers, involving hundreds of machines
· Participate in all phases of the development of a large distributed system; providing hardware, manageability, operability and performance perspectives on all aspects of the system
· Invent bold and radical new approaches to automate maintenance tasks, reporting systems, system health, performance monitoring tools, and software management tools
· Delve into a customer issue, or investigate why a metric is trending the wrong way, turning customers into raving fans.
· Configure new machines and perform various system maintenance tasks
· Design and execute production acceptance tests and new hardware evaluations including producing, maintaining, and evolving capacity plans for various components, refining hardware requirements and selected designs, balancing raw up-front dollar cost with operability and TCO.

• Experience in Linux system administration - 3+ years
• Experience in automating manual tasks (BASH, cron jobs, etc) - 2+ years
• Understanding of network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP) - 2+ years
• Working independently to resolve challenging technical problems & passionate about finding innovative solutions
• Engineering experience in a large-scale, high-availability environment
• Ability to participate in an on-call rota
• Bachelor’s Degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science or related field, or relevant work experience
• Experience of Linux systems administration - 5+ years
• Experience of systems automation using BASH, Python, PHP, Perl, etc - 5+ years
• Advanced knowledge of TCP/IP networks and architecture - 5+ years
• Advanced knowledge of configuration management systems such as: Puppet, Chef, Ansible, or related systems.
• Excellent problem solving skills with a strong attention to detail
• Ability to dive deep into complex technical problems
• Experience managing large server fleets
• Experience in a customer support environment
• Meets/exceeds Amazon’s leadership principles requirements for this role
