Job Introduction

Studioworks has an exciting opportunity for a Studio Engineer based at our brand new state of the art TV Studio at Glasgow’s iconic Kelvin Hall, planned to open in Autumn 2022.

With support from teams in London, this unique opportunity will offer you the chance to create this new facility and to be part of this exciting new chapter for Studioworks in Scotland.

We are looking for someone with a wide range of broadcast expertise who understands the requirements of a TV Studio and its clients. As Studio Engineer, you will supervise, maintain and operate a wide range of broadcast equipment and systems. You will work closely with the Studioworks team, suppliers and freelance colleagues to ensure the Studio is ready for operation by our customers.

At BBC Studioworks we offer our clients world-class studios and post production spaces, equip them with the right technology and engage the most dedicated and talented people in the industry to help them bring their ideas to life. We work with ITV, SKY, BBC, Channel 4 and many others. We currently have sites at Elstree and Television Centre in White City and we’re looking to grow. Our London facilities are home to some of the nation’s most watched and loved television shows including Strictly Come Dancing, Saturday Night Takeaway and Eastenders.

Role Responsibility

  • Work closely with production teams and other resource departments to ensure operational and other production needs are effectively met.
  • Devise ways of achieving the needs of productions by means of technical innovation and development.
  • Advise operational and production staff on the technical capabilities of studio systems and equipment to assist them in achieving specific results. This may involve attending planning meetings prior to the production day.
  • Responsible for devising modifications to equipment or systems as required and then to supervise appropriate field trials.
  • Liaise with staff, contractors and commercial manufacturers before, during and after major area refurbishments.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Training and qualifications relevant to broadcast engineering.
  • Knowledge and experience of vision, sound, communication and computer systems relative to a television studio environment.
  • A positive, enthusiastic manner with an ability to deal tactfully and sympathetically to requests from operational and production staff is essential.
  • Customer awareness and an appreciation of productions requirements.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proven problem solving skills with a broad outlook on the scope of solution,
