Job Introduction

The BBC is recruiting for a Strategy Manager to join the Strategy & Performance team on a twelve month fixed-term contract basis. This is a hybrid working role, the post holder will be required to come into the London office two or three days per week.

The BBC is the largest broadcasting corporation in the world. Our mission is to enrich people's lives with programmes that inform, educate and entertain. We are a public service broadcaster, reaching 95% of the UK population every week, established by a Royal Charter and funded by the licence fee. Our portfolio includes 8 national TV channels plus regional programming, 10 national radio stations, 40 local radio stations and online services including bbc.co.uk, iPlayer and iPlayer radio.

The Strategy & Performance team helps the BBC define its future and develop a plan for getting there. It acts as an independent advisor to the management of the BBC, enabling senior leaders to develop creative and practical ideas for how the BBC and its services should evolve. The team is made up of analysts, managers, heads and controllers with the Director of Strategy & Performance sitting on the BBC’s Executive Committee.

Whilst our mission has never been more important, it is also becoming more difficult to deliver, with new global digital companies offering audiences huge choice. We need people who are passionate about media, supportive of the unique role public service broadcasting plays in the UK and wanting to work on some of the biggest issues affecting the BBC today.

Role Responsibility

The Strategy & Performance team makes recommendations which influence the BBC’s long term future. We are a creative, innovative team drawing on data, insight and information to help advise BBC management on how the BBC’s content and services should evolve. We help the organisation to evaluate trade-offs and choices where the answer isn’t highly obvious.

We are structured, analytical thinkers but are comfortable with ambiguity and work collaboratively with others. We communicate clearly in plain English and are as comfortable talking with technologists as we are with programme-makers. We build compelling narratives to help our colleagues understand key issues and to commit to appropriate responses.

The Ideal Candidate

With experience in business strategy, you'll be comfortable with qualitative and quantitative data analysis; and be able to demonstrate a pro-active approach to identifying and solving business challenges. You'll also be confident advising senior teams and will be able to present complex data and arguments in ways that are accessible to everyone. You will be comfortable dealing with senior level stakeholders and will have had experience of managing projects. A good understanding of the broadcasting sector and media developments would be advantageous.
