Job Description

What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

The Role:

Join a team of software developers who create new features in ISV software products aligned with AMD’s server platform roadmap. Implement new algorithms, optimize existing workloads and large, complex applications such as database systems. Collaborate with application engineers at leading software partners on performance characterization, tuning and optimization of software applications for server platforms. You will work directly with partners and customers to deploy new features and tune them for complex, distributed software applications across multiple industry verticals (for example, among others: databases, telecom, big-data, analytics, financial services, media, entertainment).

The Person:

Are you passionate about software development in Java, python, or C/C++? Do you enjoy writing and reviewing code? Do you enjoy working with customers to right-size, troubleshoot and fine-tune their on-premise and in-cloud deployments? Enjoy using different compiler/linker tools, debuggers, and profilers to debug code and eke out maximum performance? Do you like to use your strong communication skills to create technical documents and publications as reference material for others? Then, we want to hear from you!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with ISV software engineers on large, complex application software (often millions of LOC)
  • Understand current and planned features in AMD’s datacenter hardware roadmap for CPU, GPU, and accelerators
  • Develop software features and refactor complex code for multi-core CPUs, large memory footprint and fast IO subsystems
  • Set up applications or benchmarks on a cluster of server systems
  • Characterize performance of the benchmark or application with these new features
  • Collect and analyze data to identify and mitigate performance hotspots
  • Work with ISVs or open-source maintainers to release these changes
  • Publish methodologies used and results obtained via tuning guides, white-papers, and technical presentations at industry conferences

Preferred Experience:

  • Strong software development skills in Java, Python or C/C++
  • Ability to analyze and pick design options and tradeoffs
  • Strong work experience with distributed systems and environments
  • Performance analysis tools for Linux/Windows (bare-metal or virtualized environments)

Academic Credentials:

  • 4-year engineering degree (CS/EE) preferred

Location: Santa Clara, CA or Austin, TX
