Job Title: Sr. Maintenance Technician

Job Purpose/Overview

A Sr. Maintenance Technician is a fully trained technician that independently maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs all production and ancillary equipment in their assigned area of the factory.  This person trains and develops the skills of Maintenance Technician personnel.

This position will support production operations by performing preventative and predictive maintenance activities as described in the Maintenance Technician description.  Also, the following additional skills and responsibilities are required:

  • Fully qualified on all equipment in assigned area of responsibility to include operation, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Independently conduct large scope project work and/or lead PM Pillar projects.
  • Considered Subject Matter Expert (SME) on assigned equipment; able to lead or conduct major overhauls and/or equipment modifications.
  • Supports the Engineering Department in equipment installations.
  • Plans and performs a variety of production related duties requiring an expert degree of troubleshooting knowledge and skill.
  • The Sr. Maintenance Technician is responsible for building an effective team on his/her shift and in his/her area of responsibility and for recommending the training needed for both the individual associates and the team. This is accomplished through coaching and functional/technical expertise on shift and by working closely with the Maintenance Leader.
  • Under direction of the Maintenance Leader, the SMT creates and executes plans to accelerate building people capability. They train, coach and mentor technicians to deliver the daily maintenance plan and the 90-day plan. 
  • Escalations - Proactively identify risks and opportunities as well as reactively lead on-shift incident resolution when technicians require additional support. Prioritize, assign resources against escalated issues, and make decisions to resolve escalated issues.
  • Communications - Ensure that open communications are established and that opportunities to broaden the scope and responsibility of on shift technical teams/associates are undertaken.
  • Functions as the SME on equipment.
  • Safety/GMP Leader in adhering to safe work practices; LOTO, Confined Space, and all other plant safety requirements related to supporting machinery
  • Hold team members accountable to adherence of Safety & GMP practices.
  • Higher level electrical and mechanical troubleshooting and repair.
  • Plan and conduct PM’s and WO’s independently.
  • Support Operations by training technicians and operators in AM and PM activities.
  • Use higher level MSE tools.
  • Good understanding and application of knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics and maintains, updates, and teaches application to Maintenance Technicians.
  • Represent team in the daily FMOS meetings.  Provides performance data for selected machines and communicates action plans and completed work effectively.

Key Responsibilities

  • Use PLC to troubleshoot and calibrate electrical components; including identifying faulty equipment for all assigned equipment.
  • Higher level of troubleshooting skills for hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical drive systems for assigned equipment.
  • Lead a minimum of (2) PM Pillar Projects per year.
  • Recognized as having a special skill in either: Fabrication, Welding, Electrical, Machinist, or Team Leader identified skill set.
  • Leader in communicating with technical associates and management

Job Specifications/Qualifications

Education & Professional Qualification

Minimum: 

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: 

  • Associate degree in a technical discipline, preferably in Industrial Maintenance/Technology.

Knowledge/Experience

  • Technical degree/trade certification or 4 years or equivalent manufacturing technician experience required.

Key Functional Competencies & Technical Skills

Minimum:

  • Possess a fundamental understanding of electrical, hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and mechanical drawings in order to solve problems in a timely manner.
  • Ability to troubleshoot ac/dc electrical components including motor starters, switches and sensors found on all assigned equipment using basic test equipment such as multi-meters and amp probes.
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic pneumatic and mechanical drive systems at the component level on all assigned equipment; i.e. sorting systems and palletizing robots.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed to support production needs and to conduct multi-task work in a very fast paced work environment
  • Willingness to develop required technical skills in welding, basic machinist and fabrication/layout skill sets.

Preferred:

  • Possess an advanced understanding of ac/dc electrical (up to 480 volt 3 phase), hydraulic and pneumatic schematics and mechanical drawings in order to solve problems in a timely manner.
  • Possess PLC/ Instrumentation troubleshooting skills.

Physical Requirements:

  • Frequent lifting/carrying (10-50 lbs.).
  • Frequent pushing/pulling (50-200 lbs.).
  • Frequent handling/gripping/bending/stooping.
  • Ability to work at elevated heights off a ladder or platform, climb stairs, leaning over equipment.
  • Ability to stand and / or work on feet for extended periods (minimum eight hours in one shift).
