What you do at AMD changes everything
At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible. We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.
Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile†to achieve unthinkable results. It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world. If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.
Side-Channel Analysis Intern – Product Security
The Role:
The AMD Product Security Office (PSO) is seeking experienced side-channel analysis interns.
Can you look at an oscilloscope trace and identify which crypto algorithm is being executed? If so, we are looking for you. The Cryptographic Engineering Team is embedded within AMD’s Product Security Office. The team's mission is to ensure that the AMD platforms provide state of the art cryptographic solutions to provide the ultimate protection of our users data.
The role entails evaluating our current cryptographic implementations, DPA/DEMA/DFA countermeasure evaluations and designs.
The Person:
You must be passionate about all aspects of side-channel analysis of cryptographic implementations. As a Side-Channel Analysis Intern, you will work closely with our Product Security Engineering team to perform side-channel analysis of AMD roadmap SoCs/products. You are expected to have excellent communication skills as you will be expected to communicate complex cryptographic topics to various disciplines to internal and external stakeholders. Deep understanding of crypto primitives and tradeoffs between area/performance/security of hardware and software implementations is crucial.
Desired Experience:
Deep understanding of state-of-the-art cryptographic algorithms and protocols.
Experience with side-channel attack countermeasures.
Understanding of mathematical and implementation aspects of Cryptography.
Understanding of micro-architecture and RTL design of cryptographic IP blocks.
Good coding skills and familiarity with languages such as Verilog, C, C++, Python, Assembly etc;
Theoretical/practical knowledge of common power/electromagnetic side channel and fault injection attacks (e.g. SPA, DPA, CPA, SEMA, DEMA, DFA, etc.).
Ability to develop and perform power/EM side channel analysis and fault injection attacks.
Knowledge of statistical techniques used in side-channel attacks such as TVLA, t-test, Pearson correlation, etc.
Key Responsibilities:
Participate in pre- and post-silicon cryptographic hardware side channel analysis and fault injection techniques.
Contribute towards typical side-channel analysis of common cryptographic hardware IP and associated silicon countermeasures.
Work with other architects, designers, and verification teams to contribute, review, and provide feedback to relevant side-channel resistant specifications and designs.
Prototype and evaluate algorithms and architecture using C/C++/RTL based architectural models.
Document assumptions with technical clarity and communicate results.
Participate in the security verification of side-channel resistant cryptographic implementations.
Preferred Experience:
Familiarity with side-channel analysis equipment/platforms/tools.
Experience working on pre-silicon power side channel analysis.
FIPS 140-3 non-invasive attack experience.
Academic Credentials:
MS or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics.
