Solution Architect

 

Role Purpose:
The essence of this Solution Architect role is to shape the development and implementation of Core OneNumber products. The specific responsibility concentrates on the designing the integration of our core OneNumber products (Apple & Samsung watches, Alexa Calling and secondary physical & eSIM) into new markets. In addition, the Core Solution Architect will contribute the design, development and integration of our more efficient and scalable microservices platform which complies with Vodafone's wider Tech 2025 initiative.


The Solution Architect assumes the Solution Design Authority for the OneNumber Core Product squad, requiring the orchestration and management of multiple design work streams. The role will be responsible for working with NW and IT architects, Group integration lead, and developer & operations teams of enabler products (DXL/APIX, TIL, VFID and PPE) in order to design, cost, and document the solution to be implemented by the Integration Lead. In doing so, the Solution Architect will work closely with other members of the CP&S team, Projects & Programmes, Product and Commercial managers, to ensure the solution deployed is fit for purpose and can be readily deployed and operated by Vodafone.


They will work closely with the commercial and Technical Product Owner and QA to make sure that the platform meets the needs of the business within the boundaries of the architectural roadmap & strategy.


Duties of the Solution Architect:

  • Design solutions to meet the business and user experience requirements set by the Product Owner; translate the Product Owner's desired business benefits into the technical architecture
  • Lead development, make architectural and implementation decisions, in a distributed team
  • Write the High Level Design specification that is the input for the offshore development and operations teams
  • Collaborate with the OpCo's technical teams to understand the integration requirements and develop deep knowledge and understanding of the OpCo's IT and NW environments
  • Build scalable and cost-conscious solutions
  • Identify and document any risks to the solution. Classify the likelihood, impact and severity of the identified risks and calculate the risk contingencies
  • Identify and document possible risk mitigations
  • Ensure the value and credibility of the solution is accurately articulated in support materials
  • Ensure solutions are deliverable in timeframes committed. They should be scalable, repeatable and utilise existing standard services as much as possible
  • Technical SPOC for internal and external 3rd parties and suppliers
     

Candidate requirements:

  • Relevant higher education in a related field
  • Experience in API and software architecture
  • Deep knowledge of web-based and service based architectures (REST/SOAP)
  • Experience in Agile development/SCRUM and continuous delivery processes.
  • Knowledge in Telecommunications, Infrastructure or Applications Development advantageous
  • Useful to have experience in designing complex solutions in the following areas:
  1. IP Networking & SIP
  2. Cloud computing
  3. Network Monitoring & Optimisation
  • Awareness of IT Security and compliance issues
  • Understanding of The Open Group Architecture Framework (TOGAF) or other Architecture methodologies


Essential skills:

  • Demonstrable experience in commercial product development with proven problem solving and innovation ability
  • Ability to lead development and make architectural and implementation decisions, in a distributed team
  • Excellent requirements analysis skills
  • Ability to both influence and show resolve under pressure from both OpCos and Group stakeholders to ensure solution designs are deliverable
  • Willingness to develop and adapt to meet changing client and market expectations
  • Strong personal impact, self-disciplined and personal drive
  • Ability to apply Big Data principles to gather key performance indicators and valuable customer insights
  • Communication skills - the ability to write and present complex subject matters in a clear and concise manner, present to internal stakeholders and externally up to C-level customer contacts
  • Ability to determine the critical success factors of delivery
  • A team player willing to support and work with others
