What you’ll do:

As a Software Engineering Team Lead, you will be accountable for the design and development of high quality, web and mobile products used by millions. You will work with other discipline leads to architect, deploy and operate these products.

We don’t expect anyone to have experience of all the below, this just gives an example of the technologies and practices we value:

  • Background in software development and knowledge of design principles and patterns
  • Experience in web development, using modern React and cloud based architectures
  • Lead a multidisciplinary team, providing technical direction for the products that you are responsible for - ensuring quality standards are maintained and best practise is employed
  • Recruit, lead, mentor and grow software engineers across the spectrum of experience, from Junior to Principal
  • Manage conflicting priorities and multiple streams of work, ensuring the team have clear focus and support
  • Learn new technologies and be able to grow the technical capabilities of the team
  • Work with the leadership team for the product you represent - helping shaping the backlog to ensure we’re delivering on time and to a high quality.
  • Facilitate collaboration between all of the Engineering teams in Children’s and Education - solving the interesting and challenging technical problems that affect us all
  • Understand the landscape of mobile application development for iOS and Android 
  • Have a passion for modern web technologies
  • Whilst not essential, having some working knowledge of WebGL/Canvas and frameworks such as Pixi.js and Phaser would be a bonus

 

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience with some of the following technologies: JavaScript, React.js, PWA’s, Hybrid App frameworks (Capacitor, Ionic, Cordova), AWS, Cypress, BrowserStack
  • A knowledge of software architecture principles and leading development practices
  • Experience building full stack applications: ideally in React/Node
  • Experience of CI/CD
  • Proven experience in leading technical teams
  • Proven experience of E2E, automation testing and TDD
  • Experience of an agile environment, pairing and working within a collaborative team
  • Experience delivering high quality software at scale
