The Search team work on products that power BBC products including iPlayer, Sounds and News on TVs, the web, mobile apps and voice devices. There are more than 55 million hits on our APIs each week — our team provides one of the key ways people find content on BBC Online. Role Responsibility

As a Software Engineer, you will be working on software solutions that will be used by millions of users. You will be working collaboratively within a cross-functioning, agile team.

In the Software Engineer role you will:

• Design, develop and deploy high quality solutions that will be used by millions of users.
• Contribute to best engineering practices such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, Test Driven Development, Behaviour Driven Development, cloud architectures and pair/mob programming.
• Deploying products to live multiple times a day.
• Collaborate effectively with other development teams to help to drive forward BBC technologies.
• Write appropriate tests using automated test-driven techniques for ensuring code quality and integrating the software with monitoring and support tools, supported by others in the team.
• Contribute to technical documentation and helping to troubleshoot and resolve issues throughout the product life cycle, including out of hours support (with support from others in the team).

The Ideal Candidate

We would love to talk to you if you:

• Have experience working as a Software Engineer in delivering software solutions using one or more of the following: JavaScript, React and NodeJS.
• Have experience in writing automated tests using testing best practices.
• Have an understanding of Cloud based deployment and architectures.
• Have an understanding of highly scalable and performant systems.
• Have an understanding of DevOps/Linux.
• Care about quality and you know what it means to write high quality code.
• Have experience with one or more of the mainstream development and deployment tool chains.
• Have experience working hands-on in a Software Engineering role in an agile environment.
• Have experience in identifying, debugging and resolving complex production issues.
• Have a positive attitude, a passion for technology, and a constant desire to learn.
• Have a drive for results (or just love "getting stuff done").
• Some experience or interest in search engines (Elastic Search, Cloud Search, Solr) would be beneficial though not essential.
