TV Partner Devices is focused on getting iPlayer for TV working on partner devices from major international manufacturers. We work closely with companies such as Amazon, Nintendo, LG, Panasonic, Samsung, Sony, Sky, Virgin Media, Vestel, YouView and many more; enabling amazing experiences for our audiences on as many platforms as possible. Our aim is to assist and deliver certification of platforms for BBC iPlayer and BBC TV products. Partner Engineering (PE) is the investigative and solution developing arm of Partner Devices, in addition PE supports the validation of BBC technical aspirations against industry potential and provides engineering expertise in the Partner to BBC relationship

Along with other teams in Partner Devices, we are geared towards supporting automated certification tools, by building technologies that validate the latest specifications, whilst engaging with our partners to deliver the highest quality experiences for our audiences. The devices we certify enable millions of people to access our products on a daily basis, and our success is critical to the success of the ‘iPlayer for TV’ mission.
You'll be using Node, Javascript, AWS, Cloud Formation, and Github on a daily basis. We work in a range of other programming languages specific to diagnosing device issues so you can expect to be fully involved in this. You'll be building world class innovative tooling to validate and regulate TV certification based on high standards and specifications. Our tools need to be well engineered, well maintained, easy to use, easy to understand, and provide sufficient information to help diagnose and fix faults.
As a Software Engineer, you'll be responsible for the design of software, and for implementation and operation of effective software and tools. You'll collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to understand business requirements and influence product requirements. We give our engineers 10% time to research new technologies, and encourage knowledge sharing company wide.
We are looking for someone with software engineering experience, willing to get hands on with devices to investigate, design and develop workable solutions.
You'll thrive in the role if you have the ability to look to the present and future of the industry, and investigate the viability of future platforms or emerging technologies. A successful applicant may also expect to join us in representing the BBC at various engineering engagement events, workshops and public forums.
