We have an immediate opening for a Software Engineer on the Mixed Reality Rendering Team. We are working on graphics and remoting technologies on Mixed Reality devices, from on-device rendering to leveraging high-powered cloud servers to generate graphics with unparalleled detail and visual quality. Besides creating and shipping rendering technology for devices such as HoloLens, HoloLens2 and Windows Mixed Reality headsets, our team is in charge of the Holographic Remoting and Azure Remote Rendering products, creating and leveraging innovation in areas such as 3D rendering, low-latency streaming, remoting, reprojection, video coding, as well as image and video processing. We are looking for someone with a background and passion in some or all of these areas.

Responsibilities

  • Working in close partnership with a team of diverse and talented peers in various disciplines including design, hardware, Program Management, and Software Development for sustained long term success
  • Partnering with your peers and technical leadership to deliver solid technical designs
  • Maintaining an unwavering focus on our customers and the value you can deliver to them
  • Closely collaborating with partner teams when engineering & business dependencies exist
  • Owning accurate costing for your engineering activities, and executing with high accountability to schedule and quality
  • Working on all aspects of Software Development including design, implementation, testing, maintenance, documentation and delivery
  • Mentoring other developers and sharing expertise throughout our team
  • You are expected to be a self-starter, capable of solving ambiguous and challenging technical problems with wide scope
  • You will be expected to lead by example and maintain the standard and craftsmanship embodied in our products
  • You will have the opportunity to work with new technologies on a diverse range of cutting edge hardware platforms

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of relevant professional software development experience
  • Excellent C++ development and debugging skills
  • Expertise in writing performance-critical code and in performance analysis and optimization
  • A proven ability to work in a team environment on a shared code base
  • A proven track record of delivering high quality solutions for technical challenges
  • Strong knowledge of 3D math and linear algebra
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent

 

Desirable skills:

 

There are plenty of other skills that aren’t required, but you’ll find useful in this role. Let us know if you have experience with, or are passionate about:

  • Developing for mobiles, embedded systems, systems on a chip (SoC), specifically power and performance optimizations
  • OS networking stacks (on any OS)
  • Low-latency data transmission over wireless networks
  • Video codecs and low-latency, high-throughput video encoding/decoding
  • Software architecture and API design
  • Experience with graphics APIs such as DirectX or Vulkan
  • Experience with game engines such as Unity or Unreal
  • Working knowledge of modern CPU+GPU hardware and typical performance bottlenecks
