Job Introduction

We're looking for a Software Engineer to join our Audiences Products team based in Cardiff (but working remote.) 

Our team is responsible for the BBC Audiences website, a service that makes data and research available to help staff across the BBC make informed decisions based on what audiences think, like and do. You will be working on software that will help create a BBC that feels relevant to millions of users.

Role Responsibility

You’ll find yourself helping in a number of areas, including:

  • Working with colleagues of different disciplines to analyse, scope and plan new work;
  • Contributing to discussions on technical improvements;
  • Informing the team’s goals, objectives and product direction;
  • Diagnosing operational issues and suggesting improvements to avoid them in future;
  • Sharing your knowledge with less experienced team members;
  • Working collaboratively to deliver features and fix bugs. 

The Ideal Candidate

The development team comprises a handful of engineers working with a number of technologies and platforms, so you will end up using or being exposed to: 

  • JavaScript (Node.js, React)
  • Jest, React testing library, Cypress
  • Amazon Web Services and its associated technologies
  • Continuous integration/deployment with Jenkins 
  • Database design and use in software applications
  • Search solutions such as Elasticsearch

As part of your application and interview we will expect evidence of

  • Writing and maintaining robust production software 
  • Competence in one or more mainstream development languages and frameworks 
  • Experience in developing high-quality front-end software that meets user experience and accessibility needs
  • Competence in writing tests and broader testing & QA concerns 
  • Experience of project working and professional software development processes, including agile 
  • Effective collaboration with technical and non-technical team members - ability to speak up, challenge, agree and commit

Location: Contractual base can be Cardiff or we can offer a fully remote contract
