The Azure Monitor Observability Platform team within PIE is responsible for the core telemetry infrastructure behind Azure Monitor and all Azure Services.  Monitoring is at the heart of every online service, and this team is responsible for building a highly scalable and reliable world class telemetry solution for all Microsoft engineers and all Azure customers. We’re at over 100 peta-bytes scale of daily data and growing.  Joining the Azure Monitoring team is a fantastic opportunity to work with talented engineers at the heart of growth in the cloud, and help us deliver on the next set of big challenges critical for Microsoft’s growth. 

Responsibilities

The position requires designing and evolving the Azure Monitor Agent, that runs alongside customer’s compute workloads in the Azure cloud or on-premises, collecting telemetry signals. These logs, counters and traces are the essential input that feeds observability, security, and analytics solutions such as Azure Security Center and VM Insights for cloud services and infrastructure.  The software must function reliably and efficiently on Windows and Linux serving a variety of workloads.  

This is a role for a thoughtful and detail-oriented software developer who takes pride in the quality and performance of the code they write and the manageability and extensibility of their solutions at cloud scale. Also there’s opportunity to lead the engineering design & spearhead implementation for key upcoming initiatives in Security monitoring, or support for new cloud infrastructure types.  

Hands-on experience with writing commercial platform software would be very valuable. Cloud expertise is useful. The role will encompass ownership from design through implementation of a core new area of the codebase. There will be experienced and helpful technical mentors to learn from and ample opportunity to hone your skills and show impact. 

Qualifications

Required Qualifications :

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, with good software design, coding, and testing skills 

• 4+ years of software engineering experience in production quality software, with good track record. 

Preferred Qualifications :

• Experience in C++ or other systems software languages 
• Systems software (Operating systems, databases tools) experience on Linux 
• Familiarity with monitoring and telemetry systems 
• Team player with a collaborative spirit and readiness to work within and across teams.
