The opportunity

Right now, we have a Fixed Term Full-Time opportunity till 30/06/24 for a Software Development Manager to join us in the Technology team of the Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) Branch.

SCATS is critical to Transport for NSW and its global customer base, improving traffic flows, managing congesting and keeping over 1 billion people safe every day worldwide. Beyond delivering network optimisation and safety outcomes, SCATS is critical to Transport for NSW’s technology agenda, and is key to anchoring NSW as a global leader in innovation and technology.

The Technology team within SCATS is there to deliver the product vision through sound technology engineering, underpinned by quality assurance.

This role will lead and manage the design, development, deployment, maintenance, continual improvement and quality assurance of new and existing intelligent transport systems software, to support the delivery of intelligent systems solutions that meet the evolving needs of clients.

What you will be involved in:

  • Lead and manage a software development team to deliver high quality application programs including design, development and maintenance; monitor and appraise work performance and facilitate their ongoing professional development.
  • Manage system design and development processes for allocated projects by active implementation of quality standards for specification, coding, testing and documentation as embodied in the standard software development life cycle.
  • Work closely with the other teams to access services and to plan resourcing to deliver testing, architecture, release and deployment, traffic engineering, IT support and technical documentation support, to support the software development team’s program of work.
  • Identify and evaluate advanced and emerging technologies and techniques that may enable innovative and effective intelligent systems solutions, by engaging in technical environmental scans and literature research.
  • Ensure that technical and user requirements documentation is maintained, requirements are tracked through to implementation and that knowledge transfer occurs by conducting workshops.

About you

Together with your engineering degree from an Australian University or equivalent overseas qualifications, you will also have demonstratable skills and experience delivering software solutions and projects in a large, complex organisation.

Combined with your CI / CD environment experience, you will also bring your experience working in a modern Agile development team, where you have managed the technical solution.

As a proactive and collaborative professional, you will be joining a start-up mentality branch that is rapidly changing the way we work and you will drive these new agile ways of working within new types of development environments that sit within a complex product ecosystem.
