To support the ITS IT Team and Project Manager to deliver bespoke, niche market, software solutions for internal and external clients - this will include the Milford Road Alliance and NZTA Network Outcome Contracts - software programming in PHP, Python, or similar, Linux, Scripting - PowerShell / Bash, networking, routing, database incl.

SQL, and system administration.

The successful candidate will work directly with the team and clients to fully understand their needs, be able to provide iterative delivery to the client to get ongoing feedback to work towards improved and desired solutions.

This will include developing and implementing systems to streamline data collection and delivery as well as enhanced data visualisation.

• In addition, you will collaborate closely with the product team to build new features and infrastructure by;
• Providing ideas on improvements to promote more productivity and quality
• Evaluate new technologies building prototypes for continuous improvements, and produce high quality, production-ready code in a frequently changing environment
• Development and maintenance of remote monitoring software systems
• Advocate for top programming practices
• Technical development / Mentoring

About You :

We are looking for candidates with the following skills, qualifications and experience.

Essential :

• At least 3 years' experience specifically in software engineering
• Python (Django experience preferable)
• Windows and Linux environments
• Scripting - PowerShell / Bash
• Networking - routing / switching
• Good knowledge of SQL database
• Experience with embedded systems, Campbell Scientific, BASIC
• Experience with version control and source code management
• Understand fundamentals of communication protocols, RS-232, RS-485, Ethernet, MODBUS

Desirable

• A relevant tertiary qualification in software engineering
• AWS (EC2, RDS)
• SIP servers
• Sysadmin experience - deployment and maintenance of Windows
• Field experience with sensors and remote data acquisition
• Experience with AI (Keras / Tensorflow)
• Server Hardware administration experience
• Wireless & Radio network fundamental knowledge
• Working at height and working in remote locations
