The SVP is seeking a Social Policy Officer to support its national policy work.
This is a great opportunity to work with an organisation campaigning on some of the most pressing issues facing our society today. The SVP’s Social Policy work is a new workstream for the organisation, and is a key team contributing to achieving the organisation’s mission and vision to seek and tackle the root causes of poverty.
The Social Policy Officer will work on projects addressing a wide range of issues relating to our priority policy areas. The successful candidate will manage our work on refugees and in-work poverty. They will be responsible for gathering data and information from our frontline centres, promoting our new “from the frontline†survey and collate that for use in public policy campaigns.
They will work closely with the Head of Communications, Campaigns and Marketing and will contribute to our work to monitor, inform, and promote effective law, policy, and practice across
England and Wales.Working Hours = Full time -
You will be contracted to work 37.5 hours per week
Location = Remote
Contract = Fixed Term Contract for 6 months
Salary = £26,800 per annum plus

YOUR MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:
Working with the Head of Communications, Campaigns and Marketing, support the organisation’s implementation of its National Policy Advocacy strategy. This includes analysis, research, and influencing work on two or more of the SVP’s policy priority areasPromote and share the Society’s “from the frontline†system to collect case studies and data from our frontline servicesMonitor and keep up to date with relevant legislative, policy, and practice developmentsSupport targeted policy advocacy including developing and maintaining relationships with a range of stakeholders, and occasionally representing the SVP at meetings and events Gather and analyse quantitative and qualitative data to contribute to the SVP’s Social Policy work. Work closely with the Communications team supporting all relevant communications activity across online and offline media Complying with the SVP’s monitoring and recording requirements Any other duties as required by the line manager in line with the grade of the post
TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE, YOU’LL NEED:
Previous experience in a similar role involving policy analysis, campaigning, research, and development on social justice issues Experience of stakeholder engagement with a wide range of external partners (e.g. policymakers, parliamentarians, service-providers, NGOs, civil society coalitions, and communities from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds)Experience in contributing to research to inform policy, and an understanding of research methodologiesAdvanced knowledge of MS Office applications (especially Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)Some knowledge of the UK Parliamentary systemIt is desirable that the candidate can demonstrate the following –Experience of research with people from a range of backgrounds, including from vulnerable or disadvantaged backgroundsSome knowledge or experience of influencing tools and tacticsIn return we’ll provide you with the opportunity to work for a welcoming organisation that offers support and guidance.HOW TO APPLY:If you feel you have the relevant skills and experience to fulfil this role successfully, please apply in the first instance with your CV to HR@svp.org.uk.
