THE ROLE:

Would you like to be part of a world class team enabling applications for one of the world’s mightiest supercomputers? AMD is searching for talented and highly motivated computational scientists to join our team of developers preparing applications for the Frontier and El Capitan supercomputers.

This position is for an application optimization engineer specializing in Machine Learning and Deep Learning applications.  The primary responsibility is optimizing widely used AI applications to run well on AMD CPU and GPU platforms. 

THE PERSON:

An Artificial Intelligence Engineer or Data Scientist with strong GPU programming skills and a demonstrated track record of improving performance for applications and libraries widely used by the scientific computing and data analytics community.  Must be self-motivated and possess the ability to work well within a team environment.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS AND EXPERIENCE:

• Masters or PhD in Computer Science, with specialization in AI Engineering, Data Science, Machine Learning/ Deep Learning (MLDL) or related subjects, or equivalent experience
• At least 5 years of relevant industry experience

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Develop, port, and optimize ML/DL applications and frameworks including HPC use cases for use on AMD hardware
• Work with other members of the Applications Solutions team to collaboratively solve issues
• Represent AMD to customers and other third parties, and act as the customer advocate when presenting to AMD audiences
• Engage with AMD product groups to drive resolution of customer issues
• Develop and present training materials to internal audiences, at customer venues, and at industry conferences

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

• Machine/Deep Learning programming experience involving foundational frameworks such as PyTorch and TensorFlow as well as analytics libraries such as scikit-learn.
• Experience with MLPerf, ResNet, and ML/DL applications such as Deep Galaxy.
• Experience with analysis and solution of AI problems typically found in Data Analytics applications
• Experience with machine learning tools such as tensorboard or visdom
• Knowledge of advanced architectures such as GANs, VAEs, Transformer networks
• Experience in implementing and optimizing parallel methods on GPU accelerators for ML/DL algorithms
• Performance analysis skills for both CPU and GPU
• Familiarity with installation and setup of various ML/DL applications
• Experience with build system tools including Make, CMake, autoconf, and autotools
• Experience with container technologies such as singularity and docker
• In-depth knowledge of software development practices including debug, test, revision control, documentation, and bug tracking
• Experience with modern C++ and Python
• Knowledge of ML compilers such as XLA, TensorRT, NNVM, etc.
• Experience developing and running applications on medium to large clusters
• Strong team development skills including demonstrated expertise with git and Jira
• Experience working with open source projects

• Ability to work well in geographically dispersed teams
