Silicon Design Researcher in Memory Performance Optimization

The Role:

AMD Research is an entrepreneurial research organization with a strong track record of driving research innovations into AMD products. We are a global leader in the development of the world’s most advanced high-performance computers (HPC), such as El Capitan, the world-leading 2 exaflop supercomputer. We are looking for a silicon design engineer for design and development of proof of concept (POC) hardware and follow-on development for early commercialization.

Key Responsibilities:

• Conduct research to identify opportunities to optimize memory performance in scientific computing/HPC workloads
• Analyze and demonstrate the viability of those opportunities via modeling and POC evaluation.
• Communicate with customers and partners on the optimization opportunities and benefits of future hardware.
• Drive the results of the research projects into product roadmaps.
• Write reports and research publications.
• Submit patentable inventions.

Preferred Experience:

• Strong hardware architecture background with demonstrated expertise in understanding applications and mapping them to new architectures.
• Understanding of memory system architectures and optimizations.
• Experience optimizing memory performance is a strong plus.
• Experience in GPU programming desired.
• Background in machine learning (ML), scientific computing, high-performance computing (HPC), or data science is a plus.
• Track record of issued patents that are embodied in successful products.
• Experience collaborating in a geographically distributed team (AMD Research has sites across North America).

Additional experience desired:

• Programming Languages: C++, C and proficient in OOP design & development.
• Experience with High Performance Computing systems.

Academic Credentials:

MS degree or equivalent accomplishments in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field.
