What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

Server Performance Architect

The Role:

At AMD, our focus is around high-performance computing, opening up the boundaries, ensuring that we get significant generation-to-generation improvements that are not only CPU core-related, but also broader, system-related. On this team, we build on our depth in microarchitecture and uarch simulation to analyze and optimize high-performance System-on-a-Chip (SoC) designs for key areas such as cloud computing and machine intelligence acceleration.

Candidates excited to seek the most sophisticated and exciting challenges in the computing industry are encouraged to apply. We are passionate about performance innovation. Think you can help us develop simulators to explore CPU microarchitecture advancements for and project performance of complex server workloads? Check out our opportunity. We have a competitive benefit package and an award-wining culture. Join us!

The Person:

An outstanding technical contributor and a passionate and dedicated Server Systems Performance Architect who can join us to develop next-generation server simulators and use them to analyze complex workloads. A senior-level or aspiring member of technical staff who can quickly determine, using data, how next generation server platforms and high-performance CPUs should be engineered to accelerate adoption of our EPYC processors across cloud, enterprise and HPC customers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Impact microarchitecture exploration, performance modeling, and analysis for SoC designs that include next-generation CPU cores, memory technologies, scalable interconnects, and quality-of-service. Advance performance simulation methodologies for server CPU exploration and projection.
  • Propose solutions to improve and enhance performance using an intimate understanding of design architecture. Develop tools and methodologies for performance analysis of server workloads.
  • Collaborate in micro-benchmarking, workload characterization, competitive analysis, bottleneck identification, and optimization. Communicate, propose, and implement solutions to processor and system performance issues.

Preferred Experience:

  • Multi-core systems and multi-thread interactions
  • CPU, GPU, or computer system microarchitecture
  • the development and usage of computer system performance models
  • Computer workload analysis
  • Strong programming skills, including experience with C++ and Python (or similar)
  • Minimum of BS + 8 years or MS + 6 years or PhD + 2 year plus proficiency in principles and methods of microarchitecture, software, and hardware relevant to performance engineering

Academic Credentials:

  • Bachelors, Masters, or PhD degree in Electrical Engineer, Computer Engineering, Computer Science or a closely related field
  • Masters or PhD with emphasis on Computer Architecture performance studies preferred

Locations:

  • Austin, TX | Greater Austin Metro Area
  • Santa Clara, CA | San Francisco Bay Area
  • Alternative locations in the US will be considered
