From its bases in London, Bristol, Cardiff, Salford and Glasgow, BBC Studios’ Factual Entertainment department produces many of British Television’s most well-loved and highly acclaimed brands. Productions, such as Top Gear, Gardeners World, Countryfile and The One Show. One such series and one of BBC1’s longest running primetime factual strands, Antiques Roadshow, which each year films with experts and contributors at locations across the UK and regularly attracts up to 6 million viewers, is now looking for expression of interest for an experienced Series Producer.
Whilst flexible on start date, we are looking for the role to commence sometime between mid February and mid March 2022 and run through until approximately the end of October.
Leadership
Working with the Series Editor and Line Producer, you will share responsibility for the recruitment, management and day to day progress of our Editorial team, from forward planning through to post. In particular, you will be responsible for supervising the directing team, briefing them in advance of filming to ensure they understand the shooting style the Roadshow seeks to deliver.
In collaboration with the Series Editor, you will shape the editorial approach of the show, briefing directors on how to get the best content in a short space of time. Finally you will also, working closely with the DOP, be the lead point of contact for the event camera teams; plotting camera positions at each venue, as well as ensuring each crew delivers great content to the correct specification.
Event Planning
Involved in forward planning the series, you’ll work with the wider team to ensure robust plans are in place for each event; everything from Health and Safety and security to travel and logistics.
Editorial Content
You will jointly oversee the editorial content being researched, planned and written for insert films, PTCs and content involving the Presenter. You’ll map out the deadlines, provide guidance, feedback and sign-off content for the editorial teams. You’ll also have an oversight of contributor casting.
Directing
You are likely to be required to direct a camera team on the event day, supervising a multi-camera team filming a selection of items with experts and contributors
Edit
You will share editorial oversight of the series with the Series Editor and will be responsible for the first pass on all programme content as it comes through the edit. You’ll work closely with the Edit Producers to help create entertaining running orders and quickly identify any editorial issues that might need to be resolved.
This is a hands on high-profile role, requiring you to work collaboratively with the Series Editor to deliver the next run of this long-running, respected brand. The ideal candidate will have overseen similar prominent peak-time productions, from forward-planning through to post and have demonstrable experience of both shaping editorial content and ensuring delivery of an established shooting style. The ability to direct camera crew is essential as you will be required to supervise a multi-camera filming team on event days. The popularity of the Roadshow means it’s often in the spotlight so sound editorial judgement is vital. Experience of working on large televised events is desirable but not essential.
