As a specialist within Professional Services you will be regarded as a technically talented expert, who can be called upon for support in a range of situations. You should be comfortable to be relied on in this capacity. We want ambitious individuals who can evidence expertise across a wide range of technologies. You should be competent across a variety of technologies aligned to the SRE function. In simple terms, you'll find, own, design, fix, and deliver the solution across both enterprise grade server and network estates and have the desire to explore areas outside your comfort zone. For example, can you navigate an OSPF routing table, put together a Shell script to keep our systems running cleanly, and leverage Python to interact with varying network elements using YANG? What this role requires is an adaptability and appreciation of the varying range of tools available to get the job done. We want people who like the buzz of an operational role and have the skills required to make an impactful difference to the way we work.
You'll have the following responsibilities
You will champion and build effective working relationships, to deliver business outcomes, adding value throughout. We rely on our reputation as highly technical faculty that provides support and consultation across the business. As a technically talented expert you should enhance the brand of the team and influence those around you to be accountable and perform at their best.
Identify areas of improvement in the way we work and implement solutions. We are a solution team….highlighting problems is easy. As a specialist within the team, you will have a desire to own and resolve these problems, overcoming obstacles along the way. "No" isn't a word we use often.
Independently identify and implement technical solutions, with an understanding of how said solution could impact services internally and/or externally.
Provide technical quality assurance of work carried out by other engineers both within Professional Services and externally. Identify coaching opportunities to ensure the highest standards of service are achieved.
Take the lead on complex or major incident fault resolution across multiple platforms and services. Be confident to communicate clearly to a wide audience throughout.
You will be seen as a technical lead, with this comes a responsibility of ensuring all engineering professionals are compliant, providing support where required.
Be a technical expert across services and varied infrastructure. Most importantly understand the service through the eyes of our customers.
Provide 365x24/7 operational support spanning a range of platform domains
Using a range of software tools available to identify automation opportunities and write basic code to implement first to market solutions
Be a role model to your peers and wider team that embodies the values of Professional Services.
You'll have the following skills & experience
Demonstrable experience of owning incident response in the event of failure. Including, resolution, route cause and retrospectives.
Ability to identify areas of improvement and apply solutions.
Extensive understanding of a range of technologies and software systems.
Experience and desire to develop people and platforms and strive for continual development.
A passion and self-driven attitude towards learning
