Job Description

What you do at AMD changes everything

At AMD, we push the boundaries of what is possible.  We believe in changing the world for the better by driving innovation in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies – building blocks for gaming, immersive platforms, and the data center.

Developing great technology takes more than talent: it takes amazing people who understand collaboration, respect, and who will go the “extra mile” to achieve unthinkable results.  It takes people who have the passion and desire to disrupt the status quo, push boundaries, deliver innovation, and change the world.   If you have this type of passion, we invite you to take a look at the opportunities available to come join our team.

Senior Software Researcher

The Role:

AMD Research seeks a senior researcher with deep experience in software for high-performance and heterogeneous computing. This is your opportunity to play an influential role in AMD Research and impact the future of computing worldwide. This role requires experience in both research and software development, and the candidate should have a demonstrated track record of driving innovation.

This opportunity places the right candidate at the start of a technical journey that will spread AMD software technologies across the competitive landscape to solve the world’s biggest and hardest computing problems. AMD Research is the advanced research and development organization for AMD. We are chartered to explore technologies beyond the company’s formal product roadmap by researching new hardware and software, tracking the development of emerging technology trends, and interacting with internal and external partners, customers, and the broader ecosystem to help guide AMD into the future. The AMD Research team prides itself on creativity, questioning the status quo, and ultimately taking both the initiative and the responsibility to get things done. AMD Research continues to expand the frontiers of the possible as we improve the world through computing.

The Person:

Are you passionate about the role technology can play in addressing the world’s most complex and interesting challenges? Can you collaborate and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment while being an efficient and effective contributor? The ideal candidate pays great attention to detail, communicates effectively to cross-functional teams and executive management, balances multiple projects and priorities, and dynamically adjusts to the requirements of the day. Additionally, we are seeking strong interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal), effectiveness with data management and analytics, and ability to work well at all levels of an organization, from frontline employees to senior executives. Are you ready to be part of this outstanding team? If so, then join us!

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build and deploy software for the most advanced HPC, data science, and machine learning platforms in the world
  • Drive innovation in production software environments
  • Combine advanced software engineering skills with a drive to explore novel approaches to solve important problems in heterogeneous computing at the large scales
  • Communicate with key internal and external stakeholders
  • Write reports and research publications.
  • Drive the results of the research projects into product roadmaps.
  • Submit patentable inventions.

Preferred Experience:

  • An established track record in software research and advanced development.
  • Experience in large-scale computing and/or parallel systems
  • Experience in heterogeneous computing and acceleration.

Also, demonstrated evidence of two or more of the following skills is a huge plus:

  • HPC software development
  • GPU programming
  • Applied machine learning and data science
  • Hyperscale systems

Academic Credentials:

A Ph.D. with 7+ years of work (or equivalent experience) in a relevant field preferred
