The Microsoft Azure for Operators group which leads the way in delivering cloud communication software for telecoms operators is growing. The Azure Private 5G Core team is providing highly scalable and fault tolerant systems that run right in the core of over 1,000 telecoms networks, providing service to 100s of millions of end-users. The Azure cloud-native services alongside Edge software bring the benefits of Azure and 5G technology to Enterprise networks and had helped Microsoft to be recognised as the “most innovative private network provider globally” after a survey by Omdia.

Microsoft is continuing to grow the Azure for Operators business with engineering team growth in UK, US and India.

This role can be made available as either full-time or part-time for the preferred candidate.

Responsibilities

• You will work as a Microsoft Senior Software Engineer on our customer facing Azure based 5G technology with a focus on the overall solution, working to make the product available for public download in the Azure marketplace.
• You will work in a collaborative environment, with local and remote partner teams, to turn requirements into robust solutions at large scale.
• You will be responsible for the design and implementation of new features, gathering requirements, creating clarity on specifications, come up with fresh ideas on how to implement and rollout.
• Develop elegant, re-usable code, championing XP practices.
• While coding will be part of your role, a greater focus will be on the delivery of the solution as a whole, making the offering robust, easy to install, manage and operate.
• You will take a technical leadership role during implementation, including task management and development of more junior engineers, mentoring them.
• You will be part of team discussions on architectural design and solutions continuously looking for improvements.
• Ship your code to the world’s computer.

Qualifications

        Minimum qualifications :

• Bachelor and/or graduate degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience in writing clean, reusable code with a solid design (in one or more languages e.g. C#, Java, C++, Rust, JavaScript, Python) champion best practices, XP.
• Experience designing, building, and deploying cloud-based solution architectures, knowledge of microservices architectures.
• Ability to take initiative, make long-term impactful decisions.
• Continuously mentor and support more junior engineers.

Preferred qualifications :

• Experience on delivering public cloud solutions with a focus on high availability, scalability, low latency and reliability.
• Knowledge of Unix/Linux operating systems, networking stack.
• Exposure or knowledge of building services that support latency sensitive edge applications, if no familiarity with the 5G technology, openness to acquire knowledge in new tech domains.
• Familiarity with security practices like identity, data access management, encryption, certificate and key management.
• Confident, solution and result oriented, independent working style with great critical thinking, taking ownership.
• Continuous interest in keeping up with sound engineering practices, drive new initiatives, improvements across the teams, tools and tech stack.
• Excellent communication skills.
