Microsoft Cloud Hardware Infrastructure Engineering (CHIE) is the team behind Microsoft’s expanding Cloud Infrastructure and responsible for powering Microsoft’s “Intelligent Cloud” mission. CHIE delivers the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform globally with our server and data center infrastructure, security and compliance, operations, globalization, and manageability solutions. To achieve this goal, we in the Hardware Health Service team within Azure are responsible for the design, implementation, and operation of a global scalable cloud services to monitor the fleet’s hardware health and predict anomalies and pending failures.  We focus on delivering solutions required for our cloud service platforms at the lowest possible cost of ownership (TCO) and providing great customer experiences on unreliable hardware.

 

Azure Hardware Health Service is looking for a Senior Software Engineer to be a part of the fast pace and exciting business of Azure. This is your chance to be part of the most exciting end to end teams within Microsoft.  We are looking for a highly motivated Software Engineer with a track record in Cloud Service development to come help us develop and light up innovative hardware solutions that powers Azure and make our world-class cloud infrastructure even better.  To be successful in this role, you must have a great track record of customer compassion, an engineering mindset, an innate aptitude for agility, and technical excellence in software engineering.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the core Azure teams and the data center operations teams to monitor hardware health and automatic corrective actions.
  • Use the software engineer skill to root cause issues and write code to automate mitigation actions.
  • Strong design and coding skills, quick learning abilities, and confidence to ship reliable software.
  • Drive continuous improvement service quality and cogs efficiency with on-site/remote team members.
  • Participate in the design of V. Next architecture for Cloud infrastructure services, focusing on strategic customer support scenarios.
  • Enthusiastic, self-motivated, and a great teammate.
  • Excellent collaboration, organizational, time management skills as a team leader.
  • Experience to work in a global environment.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors required. MS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science or related technical field desired
  • 5+ years of Cloud Service development or test, debug and validation experience
  • A minimum of 7 years’ experience with services and live site
  • Experience shipping products and having been through at least one development cycle
  • Experience working in collaborative teams and cross-group efforts.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Development of large, distributed services or services that have demonstrated high ratings on core fundamentals
  • Understanding of storage, networking and system architectures 
  • High tolerance to ambiguity and ability make progress when situations are in flux

 

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
