The Hardware Wellness, Insights, and Influence team is building new systems to monitor the millions of nodes underlying all of Microsoft Azure. The data we collect and analyze will feed systems that improve efficiency, manage hardware health, and influence future node and hardware component definition. Together with our partners, will we deliver more competitive products and better experiences to all Azure customers!
In this software engineering role, you will sit close to the boundary of software and hardware. You will help answer the multibillion-dollar questions:
How are our millions of machines being used?
Are they healthy?
Are they performing as expected?
How could they be built better?
How could we use them more efficiently?
The answers to these questions will determine the future of Azure competitiveness and the computing capability we deliver to enrich the lives of everyone on Earth.
You are a passionate, independent engineer who will dive into unfamiliar codebases and partner engagements to build end-to-end solutions across distributed services.
You are excited by the challenge of delivering the quality needed to operate at massive scale with extreme availability (99.999%).
You are a prolific coder, comfortable in multiple languages and working in heavily shared codebases across a many-layered service stack.
You love data, experimentation, and data-driven decision-making.
You are a great team player. You can effectively lead and drive design discussions, code reviews & mentoring for junior developers.

1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent.
2. Solid experience with Java/C#/C/C++/Python
3. 4+ years of experience working together in a team, to design and develop features.
4. Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills.
5. Demonstrated ability to excercise sound judgement in ambiguous situations.
6. Demonstrated ability and passion for designing and building highly available distributed systems at scale.
