The Common Building Block’s charter is to provide high quality components, services, and SDKs that can operate at hyper-scale. Azure service teams will depend on these components and services for common functionality, enabling these teams to focus on creating best of breed services.
The Common Building Block’s team goal is to empower Azure teams to manage and operate high quality planetary-scale services, safely and securely. We work closely with the Azure Offices of the CTO to identify areas of need, best of breed solutions, and create partnerships across Microsoft. The team is a strong proponent of inner source, encouraging and fostering contributions to our platform. Providing components and services at hyper scale high efficiency, consistency and reliability is a complex challenge. Our team builds a set of core foundational services enabling Azure teams to make their service development simpler, conforming and staying up to date to best practices.
As the Azure footprint is expanding across the geography, it is imperative to have Azure services scale 10x in terms of efficiency and automation. We are developing services and components that meet these goals and enable teams services while maintaining high reliability of systems and services across Azure. Given the growth of Azure and the challenges ahead of us, we are looking to centralize and standardize key functionality large parts of our platform to enable all of Azure to scale up. You will have the opportunity to learn from and create solutions with senior technical leaders across Azure.
