Microsoft Research Cambridge (UK) is looking for a senior researcher in machine learning, focusing on causal machine learning and efficient decision-making under uncertainty. The candidate will closely work with researchers of the Machine Intelligence group and experts from the business team focusing on partner management in Microsoft. This is an exceptional opportunity to drive ambitious machine learning research while collaborating with domain experts and engineers to push state of the art in machine learning and make a real-world impact.

Responsibilities

• Develop and drive an ambitious, high-impact, research agenda in machine learning for causal aware decision making within the context of a highly collaborative research culture.
• Develop and test out new ideas within existing or new collaborations.
• Write research code to test new approaches or develop novel theoretical and practical insights in collaboration with other team members.
• Prepare technical papers and presentations.

Qualifications

• Completed a PhD in machine learning, causality, or a related area, or equivalent experience.
• Track record in relevant research, such as causal inference, causal deep learning, deep generative models, as evidenced by publications in top-tier venues. Examples include but are not limited to ICML, NeurIPS, ICLR, AAAI, AISTATS, UAI etc.
• Hands-on experience with current deep learning frameworks (PyTorch, TensorFlow, etc.), as evidenced by released code (e.g. on GitHub or elsewhere).
• Software engineering skills for rapid and accurate development.
• Effective communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative environment.
• Passion to see research have real-world impact.
