BBC Research & Development is an internationally recognised leader in many fields of media-related technologies. We're looking for a bright, enthusiastic and motivated systems engineer to lead the creation and configuration of a flexible 5G Core research network test system that will help us to understand mobile technologies and shape the way the BBC uses 5G to support its future service ambitions.
Working within a small team of research engineers across the R&D department who specialise in networking systems and protocols for content distribution, and who actively participate in relevant standardisation groups, the successful candidate will be able to rapidly integrate new knowledge with existing experience in this area and bring it to bear in novel combinations to solve practical problems, mount demonstrations and run technical trials. A working knowledge of current 5G standards will be an advantage.
Once the testbed is commissioned and operational, the role is expected to change to one of prototyping novel service configurations and this is likely to involve extending the test system’s set of capabilities, potentially in collaboration with external partners. Strong software development skills are therefore highly desirable too, as well as experience of open source development methodologies and tools. Effective written and spoken communication skills are also important to the role.
To be successful in this role, we are looking for the following skills and experience:
