Ko tā mātou mahi - Our Role 

Construction & Innovation - The Construction and Innovation Group supports Kāinga Ora to grow its public and supported housing portfolio through the design and development of high quality homes that meet the needs of the community now and in the future, and by driving innovation across the construction sector. The Construction and Innovation Group also advises on standards for quality homes, provides planning and logistical support in the rehousing of tenants affected by construction and provides construction pipeline scheduling and reporting.

The Senior Quantity Surveyor will provide quantity surveying, value engineering, cost management and related services to Construction & Innovation projects / programmes and other business group work streams. Reporting to the Chief Quantity Surveyor, the Senior Quantity Surveyor's activities will be coordinated operationally to support development teams and other business groups in providing project budget and cost advice, tender review, payment claim and variation evaluation and other related services.

Ngā pÅ«manawatanga ōu - What you will bring 

  • A formal qualification in quantity surveying (i.e. NZ diploma, degree or verified international equivalent).
  • Around 5 years in a senior cost management / quantity surveying role (e.g. estimator, quantity surveyor) within a contractor, consultant or development organisation. it is desirable that 3 years of this experience has been in NZ.
  • Highly developed quantity-surveying skills that include the ability to measure quantities and develop schedules of quantities / rates and budgets, prepare tender documentation, evaluate tenders, and support all aspects of contract administration. This is to include also a thorough working knowledge of NZS3910 with a minimum of 3 years' experience working with this form of contract.
  • A demonstrated ability to plan and manage projects and work packages.
  • A thorough understanding of cost management, value engineering and risk management, as relevant to Kāinga Ora's scale of activities and asset portfolio. This should include residential construction industry conventions and project management approaches, current market conditions, and construction price rates.
  • Experience in commissioning and management of external consultants, and review and verification of deliverables.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present workshops and deliver training presentations.
  • Exceptional interpersonal communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • A willingness to share knowledge and expertise with others that assists them in delivering high quality results.
  • A passion for applying specialist, technical or professional skills and sharing this expertise / knowledge with others.
  • An understanding of different business groups and their functions.
