The Opportunity

We have new opportunities at EDF Energy within Hinkley Point C in the Project Management function, we are recruiting for a Senior Project Manager in the Equipment Programme. You will be joining a great team, some new to the Nuclear Industry, and some experienced experts. 

 

The Hinkley Point C Equipment Programme is responsible for delivering the bulk of the mechanical, electrical and process equipment that will form the working power station. The contracts may be for discrete components or complete systems and will be delivered in partnership with NNB’s global supply chain. Contracts range from £250k to £150m. Input design is completed by the EDF Responsible Designer, with the detail design completed by the equipment supplier.

 

HPC Equipment Programme includes design, manufacture, and supply of Electrical switchgear, Diesel gensets, lifting devices, Heat Exchangers, pumps, vessels, Filters and over 20,000 valves.
 

The Person

 

The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the direction and leadership of their team of Project Managers and Assistant Project Managers.  in accordance with the overall Project schedule.  This will include the full lifecycle delivery of contract scope for their area and the integration of Site wide transverse contract scope through the leadership of multi-disciplinary teams (MDT).
•    You will report to the Delivery Manager and will support them in the delivery of the overall delivery Area to the HPC schedule.  


•    Apply a project management approach to activities relating to design principles and system design which are undertaken by the Architect Engineer. 


•    Apply project management principles to aspects of work that include detailed design, manufacturing and construction - largely delivered through contracts and commissioning managed through integrated contractor and EDF teams. 


•    Responsible for the integration and delivery of a specific set of activities to time, cost, safety and quality. These are likely to include the day to day management of specific contracts and the L3, L4 schedule (Detailed Control Schedules) which provide detailed weekly and monthly work execution sequences. The Level 3 and 4 schedules are utilised by external organisations responsible for work execution to better define logistic sequencing and internal organisational hand-offs. 


•    Leadership is crucial as you will be required to establish and lead diverse multi-disciplinary teams to deliver activities within their sub-area responsibility.


•    Key resources will need to be identified, requested and clear roles and responsibilities will need to be communicated. 


•    Responsible for setting up and managing work plans to drive the delivery of work;  setting up and compliance with a budget for their areas of activity; development and operation of a risk log– disputing any increase in costs and developing options to reduce cost; establishing and managing the interfaces between their work scope and the work of the other project managers; setting up and operating the quality plan and the change control for their contracts.  
 

 

The Skills

 

•    Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Project Management and hold a Professional Qualification such as APM, PPQ or other recognised qualification.  


•    Degree and chartered status in construction, engineering or other relevant discipline - a knowledge and understanding of EPR design is desirable.


•    Track record of delivering projects within a technically complex and dynamic environment whilst ensuring high levels of safety, security and environmental responsibility, ideally within the Nuclear Energy sector or similar regulated environment.


•    Demonstrate success in managing / developing:


o    Engineering design, contract and field execution strategies for project delivery,


o    Multi-discipline EPCM projects,


o    Procurement and management of complex contracts,


o    Control of costs; risk; schedule and change and proficient in the use of Earned Value tools,


o    Close out of commercial claims and the associated negotiations.


•    Experience of successfully engaging groups of stakeholders.


•    Able to demonstrate strong management skills including project management, financial management, change management and facilitation. Proficient in the use of estimating scheduling, programming and risk tools.


•    Experience of managing contractors, consultants and other advisors throughout large and complex construction projects, in a regulated environment. Including NEC or FIDIC contracts.


•    Good presentation, influencing and facilitation skills. Excellent communication and organisational skills, able to develop relationships and maintain effective networks.


•    Good knowledge of CDM Regulations.
