The BBC's Children’s & Education Product team works in partnership with our Children’s & Education Editorial team to deliver amazing digital experiences that inform, educate, entertain, and help to inspire young people to fulfil their potential.

From the provision of a world-class set of learning experiences & support tools via Bitesize & BBC Teach to a suite of engaging & fun Children’s Apps & Games for brands such as Horrible Histories, Blue Peter & Hey Duggee, the Children's & Education Product team deliver some of the UK’s most popular websites, games, and apps.

Our Agile team(s) are made up of hard-working, supportive & enthusiastic software engineers, testers, UX designers, project managers, content producers, product owners, business analysts and design researchers, all striving to create enlightening products & experiences for our young audiences, parents & teachers. We are also at the start of an exciting journey to re-imagine our online services, making them more personally relevant and fit for the future.

Within the Project Management function, we manage the digital portfolio of Children’s & Education Games & Apps focused project(s), with support from a range of 3rd party suppliers, and are also starting to manage an array of internal development project(s) to re-imagine our online services. To maintain and enhance our extensive array of products & online services, we are now looking for a diligent and collaborative Senior Project Manager who can adapt to working on multiple 3rd party projects and / or internal Agile development project(s), that contribute to our departmental and wider Product Group goals & targets.

Role Responsibility

  • Leveraging appropriate sequential and agile project management tools and techniques to manage multiple 3rd party or internal development projects from inception to successful outcomes, within the agreed time, cost, and quality constraints.
  • With support from the BBC’s Legal & Procurement team(s), create and manage 3rd party contracts throughout the lifecycle of the project(s).
  • Define and agree with key stakeholders the project approach, budget, delivery plan, resource allocation & key outcomes.
  • Lead and co-ordinate the scoping, technical requirements gathering, estimating & planning of project(s) / work stream(s).
  • From a project’s inception to completion, apply oversight and identify, monitor, and manage in a timely manner risks, issues, assumptions, inter-dependencies, benefits, and changes.
  • Pro-actively monitor resource capacity levels within the work-stream / project(s).
  • Develop and maintain productive & collaborative relationships with internal & external stakeholders, using effective communication strategies.
  • Ensure high quality outputs are achieved by working collaboratively with test engineering teams to manage the issue triage & resolution processes proficiently.
  • Lead, organise and motivate project team(s) / workstream(s). Establish and promote effective cross-team collaborative working.
  • Engage with key stakeholders on delivery progress and challenges.
  • Ensure that project progress is reported in an accurate and timely way.

The Ideal Candidate

  • Demonstrable experience of managing multiple 3rd party projects; leading digital focused Procurement(s) end to end.
  • Experience of creating and managing 3rd party contracts, with support from Commercial, Legal & Procurement functions.
  • Solid experience of delivering audience-facing Mobile Applications, Websites and Games, in an iterative or agile environment.
  • Proven experience of working collaboratively with multiple 3rd parties to deliver digital products, within agreed project thresholds.
  • Extensive understanding & experience of applying the most appropriate sequential or agile project management techniques & controls across a range of project(s).
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, and able to adapt to changing priorities and/or direction.
  • Proven experience in leading, building and motivating effective internal and / or external development project team(s).
  • Excellent and well-practiced communication (verbal, written, listening), inter-personal and influencing skills; with the ability to bridge specialisms and business areas through user-friendly language.
  • Proven knowledge and experience of monitoring, managing & effectively communicating risks, issues, and dependencies to stakeholders.
  • Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills with the ability to work proactively, under minimal supervision.
  • An understanding and application of Benefits Realisation Management, in previous roles is desirable.
