The opportunity

We have a Fixed Term Full Time Opportunity (up to June 2024) for a Senior Program Manager to join the Customer Strategy & Technology division in the Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System (SCATS) branch. This role will lead and manage the planning, delivery, implementation and evaluation of SCATS programs and projects to achieve agreed outcomes and support the achievement of organisational objectives.

SCATS is critical to Transport for NSW and its global customer base, improving traffic flows, managing congesting and keeping over 1 billion people safe every day worldwide. Beyond delivering network optimisation and safety outcomes, SCATS is critical to Transport for NSW’s technology agenda, and is key to anchoring NSW as a global leader in innovation and technology.

What you will be involved in

The successful candidate will manage and  oversee all aspects of project planning, development, implementation for a range of projects, including developing project plans, coordinating resources, managing budgets, meeting reporting requirements, and supporting project-related activities, to ensure project outcomes are achieved. Additionally, this role will:

• Establish and maintain stakeholder relationships through effective communication, negotiation and issues management to engage stakeholders and ensure project deliverables are met;
• Monitor and evaluate all aspects of project implementation, including risk and contingency management, benefits realisation, project impact and quality measures, to identify and address issues, assess project progress and effectiveness, and achieve project outcomes;
• Manage a project team/s, ensuring compliance with governance and quality requirements, to successfully deliver all key project/s milestones and outcomes;
• Undertake research and formulate recommendations to support evidence based project planning and decision making;
• Provide advice and information to stakeholders on emerging project issues and to support project development and delivery in line with established plans, budgets, timeframes, policy objectives and other project and priorities;
• Lead a team of project, agile and change professionals, guiding them with their work goals, coaching and mentoring them to continue to develop their capability and to achieve their agreed performance goals and outcomes.

As the Senior Program Manager you will be motivated to consistently deliver high quality services in a complex stakeholder and business landscape that is undergoing continuous change. Possessing strong written and verbal communication skills, you will be astute when it comes to self and stakeholder management and experienced making presentations and convening steering committees. With a drive for detail, you will have exceptional problem solving skills and an ability to work through solutions.

It is essential that the successful candidate has demonstrated experience in a PMO setting and is skilled when it comes to supporting effective delivery, resource and pipeline management, governance and protocols. Possessing working exposure to different methodologies, you will have an understanding of waterfall and/or agile and be comfortable partnering across different portfolios.
