The role is for a Senior Pay and Benefits Advisor that will be responsible for timely and accurate processing of all payroll, benefits and pension administration. Responsibilities:
- Accurate and timely processing of bi-weekly payroll for approximately 500 employees, which includes permanent and causal employee groups.
- Accurate and timely administration and processing of employee benefit and pension activation and termination.
- Calculate and process statutory remittances and vendor remittances.
- Advise and consult with employees on pension, benefit and payroll inquiries.
- Investigate and analyze complex, escalated matters requiring comprehensive knowledge of HRIS system.
- Calculate and process final pays for terminated employees, including issuing Records of Employment (ROE) using ROE Web, and responding to Service Canada inquiries.
- Complete monthly and annual payroll and benefit reconciliations to ensure the integrity of employee data and employer remittances.
- Accurate and timely processing of annual payroll and benefit activities such as annual salary increases, increases in benefit and pension deduction amounts, employee entitlements are accumulating and deducting accurately, etc.
- Maintain payroll system by ensuring legislation changes are updated in system, creating or changing earnings and deductions on mass.
- Year-end reconciliation and preparation of T4s, pension reporting and WCB reporting.
- Act as Human Resource contact for the annual external audit, responds to audit inquiries.
- Create standard reports for monthly activities as well as ad-hoc reporting based on inquiries and external reporting requests.
- Proactively recommend processes and practices to streamline payroll and benefits, creating a more efficient practices and improving the employee experience with payroll and benefit processes.
- Lead, plan and manage HRIS projects related to system implementation, new functionality, process improvement, system update management and best practices.
- Administer all paid leaves, including short and long-term disability process.
Requirements
- Canadian Payroll Association designation required (Payroll Compliance Practitioner PCP), preferably CPM (Certified Payroll Manager).
- Experience with Avanti HRIS is strongly preferred.
- An undergraduate degree or diploma in Human Resources, Business, Accounting or Management.
- 3 years or more payroll processing experience in a stand-alone position or small team, in a mid-size or medium organization.
- 2 years’ experience administering benefit and pension plans.
- Experience in a human resources role in unionized environment an asset.
- Experience with a Defined Benefit Plan would be an asset.
- Understanding of accounting principles, general ledger and journal entries, etc.
- Exceptional attention to detail and time management competencies.
- Knowledge of relevant legislation such as federal payroll and pension legislation, provincial employment standards and pension legislation.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to establish working relationships with individuals at varying levels within the organization.
- High degree of initiative, judgment and discretion.
- Intermediate proficiency in MS Office and Google applications.
- Satisfactory Criminal Records Check results.
