About this role
The role holder will be responsible for protecting the value of a single, large managed Defence contract through managing risks, effectively delivering contractual obligations and excellent stakeholder management. The role will span the contract lifecycle of set up, transition from existing supplier and in life.
You'll have the following responsibilities
Accountable for the commercial management of contracts
•To build a strong relationship with senior commercial customer stakeholders. Is the main interface and lead for the customer of the managed contract on all commercial contractual topics
•Meets BT teams to explore whether it is possible to deliver customer requirements and takes a view as to whether BT should go ahead with the deal (does not have the power of veto)
•Assesses and manages the in-life contractual obligations and assigns internal BT teams to the relevant tasks (including themselves)
•Monitors and manages the obligations in the contracts and ensures the business is working in a manner that supports the delivery of such obligations
•Builds a strong relationship with the sector Account Management & Finance Teams to ensure controlled and managed business throughout the year
•Builds a strong relationship with peers across Contract Management to ensure best practice is shared and implemented
•Responsible for set up of contract from a commercial perspective.
•Build a strong relationship with significant partners in relation to contract delivery
Delivers change control on the contract and develops opportunities
•For the lifetime of a contracts, monitors compliance with contractual obligations including T&Cs and SLAs.
•Determines effective Change Control: ensures this is managed in the defined way/process; involves the appropriate parties such as Account Management and Commercial Finance to progress; triggers WNB process if applicable
•Manages the conformance of significant contract changes or negotiations into the main contract in a manner that ensures the business is able to understand and action the changes effectively
•Uses defined processes and tools to assess and monitor commercial viability and ensures delivery against SLAs
•Identifies Contractual Opportunities and hands these to (or works with) Account Management to pursue if appropriate
•Champions the maximisation of Commercial Opportunities, including documenting and negotiating and resolving disputes.
Operational Accountabilities
•Lead the commercial specialist team (TBC) who are responsible for protecting the commercial position of managed contracts through managing risks, ensuring contractual obligations are understood and excellent stakeholder management for a single large managed contract.
•Independently maintains records for complex decision points, commercial exchanges with the customer, efficiency of change controls and general support activities in relation to a contract.
•Ensures effective and timely CGR calls, supporting the population of CGR scorecard files and review packs is consistent and accurate
•Works with the Lead Contract Manager to ensure commercial risks are well understood and are being actively managed in the day to day running of the contracts.
•Supports both change control on existing business and new business opportunities to ensure all documents and aspects are managed effectively to ensure new risks are not introduced to the business.
•Supports contract management organisation across a number of activities such as contract governance (CGRs), risk management / mitigation & obligations, customer support, debt, P&L management
•Ensures the Team are actively managing all Defence Contracts and agreed governance is being utilised at all times.

Experience you would be expected to have
•Experience in management of senior Civil Service Customers
•Broad experience of contract management.
•Experienced in governance & compliance methods.
•Proven ability to devise & implement strategy.
•Involvement in the delivering operational transformation.
•Strong knowledge of and where possible qualifications in contract management practices.
•Proven ability to work with geographically-dispersed and virtual teams.
•Ability to interface with other BT teams such as BT Legal, Group Risk, Finance, HR, etc.
•Experienced in employee communications planning & delivery
•UK Government Security Clearance – required at SC minimum.
•UK Government Developed Vetting - desirable
