We are seeking a high caliber and self-driven team player to drive and support the planning of future server hardware platforms for Azure datacenters, and to help the AHSI Group make decisions with respect to roadmap planning and manage technology intercepts and investments. In this role, you will collaborate with business units, architecture and engineering, supply chain and finance teams to define new platforms that deliver competitive advantage to Microsoft and meet business requirements, and make well-supported recommendations to executive leadership.  For this role we seek an experienced Strategic Hardware Planner who can distill the needs of our internal business partners, and create technical plans in partnership with architecture, engineering, supply chain, and product group representatives to ensure all requirements are met.  

Responsibilities

Engage with Microsoft cloud business units to define future hardware platform requirements and align recommendations for executive approval.  

Partner with engineering and architecture teams to define platform design objectives which meet technical and business goals.  

Lead cross-functional teams (including members from business units, software and hardware engineering and architecture, networking, datacenter infrastructure, and supply chain management) to build data-driven strategic frameworks for decision making.    

Perform scenario modeling, financial modeling, and market analysis. Evaluate performance, features, cost, and time-to-market tradeoffs.  

Assess Microsoft Azure’s competitiveness in light of anticipated changes in the industry, customer and competitor trends.  

Recommend internal and external process improvements and excellence conversations cross functionally to ensure we have optimized processes and aligned across partner teams.  

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:  

5 years or more experience in server architecture, including microprocessors, memory, storage and networking technologies. 

Bachelors or higher degree in Engineering. 

5 years of Product Planning and strategy alignment experience. 

  

Preferred Qualifications: 

Proficient working knowledge of cloud service architecture and cloud business objectives  

Analytical aptitude for solving both technical and business problems. 

Highly effective written and verbal communication and presentation skills with experience in aligning and presenting to executive leadership is desired. 

Proven customer obsession in prior roles where customer requirements were gathered and implemented into a product.

Proven capabilities to drive positive business results by working across multiple organizations. 

Must have ability to work independently and lead cross-functional teams. 

Ability to build relationships and influence in a matrix organization. 

Self-motivated, driven individual who can work in a rapidly changing environment. 

Ability to work in an ambiguous business environment with competing business tasks. 

Familiarity and previous experience developing programs through phase gate process.
