As an CO+I Hardware Development Engineer, you will perform a key role in delivering the core infrastructure and foundational technologies for Microsoft's over 200 online businesses including Bing, MSN, Office 365, Xbox Live, Skype, OneDrive and the Microsoft Azure platform.

As a member of the CO+I’s Global Data Center Operations – Engineering (GDCO-E) division, you will work directly with Data Center Services (DCS) operations stakeholders across the company and across the world to design industrial hardware (HW) from concept to deployment ready. You will work with internal partners to define requirements, develop specifications and partner with ODM/OEM vendors to deliver a solution. Responsibilities

  • Work with internal and external partners to define and specify HW requirements.
  • Collaborate with partner ODM/OEM (Original Design Manufacturer / Original Equipment Manufacturer) companies to design, develop, and delivery innovative HW solutions.
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure software/security integration and functionality/compliance of solutions
  • Collaborate with partners to ensure systems meet significant quality, reliability, and service level requirements for a hyper-scale cloud environment.

Qualifications

Knowledge, experience and skills:

  • BS / MS Electrical, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent work experience
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in electrical or system level design across all stages of the HW development and release cycles
  • Experience developing HW component and system level specifications
  • Experience developing HW verification and functional test plans
  • Working with OEMs or ODMs 
  • Experience working across disciplines and organizations to resolve complex issues
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Fundamental knowledge of the following HW design principals: Signal Integrity, Power Design, Computer Architecture
  • Working knowledge of mechanical and thermal system design considerations
  • Reporting on-going status to leadership
  • Documenting and managing global cross-functional projects

Preferred, not required:

  • Experience with analog and digital circuit design
  • Experience with global Industry Safety Standards (UL, etc)
