Job Description

The same philosophy of personal attention that distinguishes Yorkville Education Company as a leading provider of post-secondary education makes us an exceptional place to work. We are a progressive and modern institution, responding to the needs of current and future students and implementing the best technology solutions to empower our work. We prioritize diversity, open doors to those often overlooked, welcome new Canadians and provide pathways to successful careers.

Yorkville Education Company (which manages both Yorkville University and the Toronto Film School) began with a simple idea in 2004: offer flexible, rigorous and career-focused degrees on campus and online to people who are on a purposeful path. With campuses in Ontario, British Columbia and New Brunswick, we equip our graduates with the professional knowledge, skills and designations that employers value.

Focused on providing a transformative, accessible and flexible higher education environment, our teams, from the President to the newest staff member, share a passion for learning, teaching and growing as individuals and as teams. We nurture an inclusive, supportive and genuinely kind work environment at our three campus locations and remotely.

If you want to shine a light on academic excellence, be empowered to make an impact on the transformation of the Canadian post-secondary education landscape and work collaboratively beyond levels, join us.

Who we need

Reporting to the Director, Business Planning, we are looking for a Senior Financial Analyst to join our  Business Planning team. This is a high profile role to help manage the growth of the company, with an emphasis of supporting the core financial planning cycle, and contributing to process improvement and automation initiatives. You will have the chance to channel your curiosity and business acumen towards a number of immediate and upcoming projects, as well as provide insights into historical financial performance in order to drive informed decisions and improve forecasting.

What's in it for you

Professional development and career growth. You want to be part of a higher learning institute where you can generate  insights that will have an immediate and long term impact on our financials, processes, and operations. Yorkville University is a progressive, forward-thinking, innovative education organization where you can grow your exposure. It’s a place to be mentored and to expand your knowledge with access to free programs after your first year. As we continue to scale, you will have the opportunity to learn and develop your skills, as well as to make an impact by influencing and challenging various projects and initiatives.

What you will do:

Create recommendations. You will use Microsoft Excel, including Power Pivot, to gather financial information from various sources (Sage accounting system) to analyze and generate business insights. You will prepare:

Ongoing detailed program contribution margin analysis and other reports, including underlying non-financial projections.

Business cases to support new investment, strategic innovation, and other business decisions.

Various cost and revenue allocations based on non-financial data.

Prepare and analyze budgets. You will assist with forecasting and annual budgets, responding to questions from leadership regarding outcomes and performance. You will evaluate financial performance compared to budget and forecast, both routine and ad hoc.

Collaborate. You will reconcile data across multiple systems while working closely with internal and external stakeholders. You will develop relationships with internal and external stakeholders, particularly the business units.

Process improvement. You will continuously contribute to improving current processes, including creating automated processes, evaluate the accuracy, completeness, and effectiveness of data collection, and implement improvements. You will thrive in an ambiguous environment, frequently switching tasks, and jumping in where needed.

What you bring:

The education and experience. You have a degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, and you are pursuing (or have) a Canadian professional accounting designation. You have three years of experience in a Financial Analyst role, ideally with exposure to a Canadian business environment. Experience in the private education sector would be a significant asset.

The technical skills. You have exceptional analytical, organizational, and planning skills. You are highly proficient with Microsoft Excel (Power Pivot practical knowledge is preferred for this role), Word, PowerPoint and Outlook, and you can quickly learn new systems.

The interpersonal skills. You thrive in an independent role contributing to the success of a team. You have flexible and effective communication skills and can build collaborative relationships.

What does the best of all worlds mean at Yorkville Education?

An atmosphere that successfully blends an entrepreneurial culture with education. We value innovation and continuously look towards expanding our programming. As a private school with government approval of our offerings, we have the opportunity to do more, stay current and be future-forward.

The chance to accelerate your career and disrupt education by responding to the needs you see and purposefully challenging the status quo.

A place where all individuals feel welcomed in the academic and workplace environments and can bring their authentic selves to the educational and work spheres. We celebrate the full range of human diversity and we acknowledge that equal access to opportunities and services may require the removal of barriers that equity-seeking communities experience in trying to obtain this access.

The opportunity to grow with access to free courses, certifications and programs - right up to our Masters' offerings.

An appreciation for the insights and skills you bring to work with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits, including a wide breadth of wellness services and a work-life balance
