About the team
Major Works is the major brownfield construction hub at Sydney Trains. Providing Engineering and Maintenance work across the Sydney Trains Network. There are over 1000 staff in the directorate which operate in a fast paced multi-disciplinary project environment.
The opportunity
An exciting opportunity exists for a Senior Estimator to join our Major Works division within Sydney Trains. As the Senior Estimator you will provide expert advice and technical solutions including estimates, cost planning, budgets, and estimating assurance for complex projects and programs. As Senior Estimator you will have authority over the overall process of estimating and providing oversight, support and assurance role across delivery groups within the delivery and planning lifecycle. There will be the expectation to work closely with relevant stakeholders to drive effective business outcomes and excellent results.

About you
A background in engineering or project management on large and complex infrastructure projects has equipped you with an understanding of the unique opportunities and challenges of our environment and will enable you to contribute to our high performing team. Most importantly, you are a careful decision maker, demonstrating expert application of first principles estimation and would be able to coach and upskill Estimators. Experience with or awareness of risk management practices is desirable.
It’s no secret that you will encounter challenges in this public service role - the stakes are high and the pressure is on as we deal with budget and time constraints, interface issues and public scrutiny. Your estimating skills and experience will equip you with the resilience and determination required to overcome these unique obstacles with an open mind and positive attitude. You will have relevant tertiary qualifications in Engineering, Quantity Surveying and / or equivalent experience in a related discipline.
Previous experience in rail maintenance projects and estimating software Candy are highly regarded.
