We're recruiting for a Senior Economist (Senior Policy Advisor), to join our Public Policy team, based in London. It’s a role with real impact and the opportunity to influence senior level decision making. This role is offered on a permanent basis and requires someone with a depth of professional economist experience.
Our team is the guardian of the BBC’s understanding of its regulatory and public policy environment. It manages the BBC’s relationship with key external stakeholders and leads the development of public policy positions. The Policy team forms part of the Director-General group and therefore sits right at the heart of the BBC. The Policy team provides high level policy support to key BBC projects and supports the development of the BBC’s policies and strategies, to promote the BBC’s interests at a time of rapid change in technology, consumer behaviour and regulation.
Reporting to the BBC’s Chief Economist, you’ll be responsible for providing day-to-day advice on regulatory, competition and economic issues relevant to the BBC, at a UK and EU level. You'll also contribute to policy development across the range of the BBC's activity and represent the BBC’s interests with external stakeholders.
With a good understanding of the principles of micro-economics and the changing media environment, you’ll provide economic and policy advice to BBC management, contributing to pan-BBC strategic initiatives and policy formation.
The successful applicant will be working on regulatory and policy questions, reporting to the Chief Economist. As such, a qualification in economics is essential. You'll have proven experience as an economist or competition policy specialist, gained within either a competition/regulatory authority, government department undertaking policy formulation in the communications sector, a consulting environment or a major communications sector company. You’ll have strong quantitative skills, and a proven track record of applying economics and econometrics. An effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, you'll be confident presenting complex data and arguments, advising senior managers and stakeholders, and engaging with external government and regulatory authorities, on a range of economic and regulatory issues.
